Farmall Super H serial # SH 540J does anyone know what the J stands for. Also, the # BHM6623 is stamped on the front side of the engine, above the distributor, looking for information.

J stands for a tractor equiped with a rockford brand clutch and pressure plate. Looks like you have a early SH with a 1939 model H engine installed. Should be a F before BHM, also make sure you found all the numbers. That would change the year made if there's more.

Sorry, but in the world of letter series Farmall's not many are worth less than a Super H with an early H engine.
DOn't put any more dollars into it than just a mower and rake tractor around the place

Maybe, maybe not. The quickest way to know is to look far a number cast into the engine block, somewhere in the area of where the oil filter is located. A true Super H engine will have "C-164". A regular H engine will have a part number.

Lot of maybes or could be, and I could very well be wrong about the tractor. But a SH engine serial # doesn't begin with BHM. A H engine serial # does begin with FBHM.
