Looking for opinions on tires. Have looked at Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max and Michelin Symmetry. I am looking for a tire with a good ride, good gas mileage, quiet ride and available in different areas since we do travel quite often. Open to all opinions.
Thank you, Bill

I ended up getting Continental Extreme Contact for my Scion. Dropped my gas mileage by about 1 mpg from the Michelin XZX that was on it from the factory, but I suspect that's mostly because I went to a wider tire.

Winter or summer tires? Climate where you live? All Season tires are a lie. They go stiff in freezing temps providing little traction on wet, icey or snowy roads.

with only a few major tire manufacturers making tires for a lot of name brands. it a 50/50 call on what is the best. i found out that Michelin has a stronger sidewall, so i run them on my p/u, r-v, goose neck trailer. seems to haul better. my $.02 worth.

I'll answer on this page too. If you want the best ride, go for the Michlins. Over the 22+ years I was in the tire industry, we checked tire wear, fuel milage, etc on many different tire brands. Both the Goodyear Assurance and the Michlins gave excellent service. You can find Goodyear stores in most mid sized towns, not so with Michlin.

Many years ago, i bought a wrecked French Renault, fixed it and drove it everywhere. It had Michelin X tires on it, and was very good on snowy roads. It never needed chains. One winter, i took it up into the Pennsylvania mountains to hunt for deer. Stayed at a cabin for three days. the day i started for home, i stopped for gas at a station at the foot of a mountain. Roads had 5-6 inches of snow, and there i was with no tire chains! The man there asked if i wanted my tire chains put on, but i told him i wouldn't need them. I also told him i wouldn't be back. He just shook his head and said i'd be back. Ain't been back there in 40 years. Those tires grabbed the snow and went right up, and i went home with no trouble. Best tires i ever had. The rear engine had a lot to do with it, i think.
