Not the kind in your email. The original kind.
I've had a can here on the shelf in the pantry for quite a while. I spied it today and thought I'd have some for lunch with a friend who was over.
I fried up a couple of slices and put it on toast with lettuce, onion and tomato.
I remember as a kid Mom would make us sanwiches like that. I haven't had Spam in years. But they were great.
Any of you want to Spam me I'll be right over.
Especially if it's around lunch time.

saw a show about it on tv,it is very popular in hawaii, It is mostly made from pork shoulder, I forget what show it was but it was very interesting. I will cook up a batch ,come on over,my wife and daughter laugh at me when I suggested we try it!

Spam always went camping with my friends.I keep several cans on hand.Armour makes a version that costs less.Goes good with beans.

I still like it fried 'til it's crisp, like bacon.
I wasn't in the Navy or I probably wouldn't care so much. When We were going to and coming from Southeast Asia in the sixties every time We stopped at some island We were served Spam every time any meal of the day. The only exception was Ewo. There we were treated to hot dogs.
I Thailand I totally lost my appetite for pineapple and shrimp.

My aunt liked to offer a variety of things when it was her turn to host and we had Sunday dinner there.

Every so often she fried sliced SPAM and it was good.

I got a hankering for some a few years ago so sliced some and fried it up. It had so much salt that I could hardly eat it and have had none since. Also seemed very greasy.

I was disappointed as I remember it being good. Maybe I just got a bad can, but not sure if I'm willing to try another or not.

I don"t understand the people that slam that product. Growing up, it was a treat to have store-bought meat, just like sandwiches with luncheon meat- usually at silo filling time. Biggest fan in our family of six kids, is the youngest, daughter serving us and US, as an Army paratrooper. Heaven knows, growing up, she helped feed and care for enough pigs that provided that product. But...she was raised a bit different than the current generation...and some of her peers.

I can't remember when I had that last.Liked it fried also liked balony that way.

Larry. Something to try. Wife's receipt. Here it is. 1. Small box=16 oz, elbow macaroni.Bring water to a boil DON"T COOK It TILL IT'S MUSHY!!!
2Run the macaroni under cool water & drain.
3. add 2 hard boiled eggs COOLED and diced.
4.dice a medium sized onion.
5.Dice up the can of Spam (med sized chunks.)
6.Add to the mix-cup of mayo and tablespoon Mustard.
7. Add a pinch of Sugar.
8, REFRIGERATE for 1/2 day
Now that's it. makes a meal with Saltine Crackers, glass of cold milk. I love it but it raises my Sugar level up to the moon. A little goes a long way for me. Other wise, it would be SOFT SINGING AND SLOW WALKING. Regards, LOU.

why is it you never remember the sandwiches you ate when you were younger, until some one talks about it. reminds me what my mother made us, she would take bologna, grind up with sweet pickles thru the meat grinder, then mix in mayo and serve on toast. "dang", it supper time now and reading these threads, i'm hungry, frig is empty, guess wendy's will have to do. [sam#3 i fried it that way too].

When I went to survival training, USN type, pilots. EGLIN AFB, IN THE SWAMPS of NW fl. The instructors told us how to catch snakes for food. Offered to trade us a can (about 5 inches square, 18 inches long, shiney tin, USN markings) if we could catch some live deadly snakes for the survival training exhibit. We had a cadet, from LA , a cajun in our class. He spoke French and cajun. Named Lennie Melancon, think Mel-lawn-son.
So we all went snake hunting. Lennie came into camp taht afternoon with a gunny sack pretty full. The instructors said what's in there?" He dumped out about 30 water moccasins and coppermouths, and a few eastern diamondback rattlers. Everyone in the camp was running, students and instructors, This cat got his stick and put them back in the sack, and we got 10 lbs of SPAM. After NO FOOD for three days, spam is like a ribeye!

Spam and eggs are really good if that is all you have. Have seen the day when we didn't have that much. That is why I always take my hat off to eat.

Sounds good, wonder if I can sub ham for spam? I never had spam, niether has my wife. Might be some on our dinner menu soon! lol J

there was an episode on mash where the greek army was going to roast a lamb, and Radar sent the lamb back to his home in iowa, so pierce made a spam lamb for the greek army

Forget the mayo and use some mustard instead.Guess what I am gong to ask for supper tomorrow.

you know to tell a real Cajun from anybody else??? a true Cajun can fly over a field of rice and tell you how much red beans n gravy it'll take to cover it.

Spam is a regular on my plate. I maks macaroni and cheese with velveeta cheese and elbow macaroni. Boil the macaroni, dice up the Spam to suit. Salt and pepper to taste and mix together in a sauce dish and bale till golden brown on top.

Greenbeanman;

Spam makes one product with 30 percent less sodium. This is what I get. I like the taste better. They also make turkey and also bacon bacon Spam. Maybe try these.

General Eisenhower said the war was won with the Jeep, M-1 rifle and Spam.

Noticed how they all avoided you. ever heard of " each to his own".
It is probably the remnants from what was on the butcher's floor but in times past , it and tinned cornbeef, plus an odd rabbit was the mainstay when times were harder than those that you now enjoy, or do you.?
Dessert will be pickled sheeps testicles.

This is my best memory of SPAM. In Vietnam Spam was the best trading item to have. My unit always made sure we had several cans each when we went into deep cover. In Apr of 1972 we came on a burnt out shell of a hut. In side where the bodies of two men and a women. In the corner where four little girls. Ages 2,6,8,& 14. The bodies where their parents and older brother. The girls had hid in the jungle when the Viet Gong ambushed the hut and killed their family. When we found these little girls they had not had anything to eat but bugs, mice and snakes for days. The oldest girl(14)weighted 48 lbs. She had been giving most of her share to the younger ones. They where terrified of us but I was not going to leave them there to starve. We built a fire and diced up a can of SPAM and some local yams (real close to potatoes). We boiled that until it was a real thick broth. We fed the girls real slow and little serving for the next twenty-four hours. When they where strong enought to move we carried them out. Flash forward. I was able to get those four girls back to Iowa to live with my Grand parents. They are now in their late thirties to fifty. The oldest is a doctor, next one is a lawyer, Next is a college professor, the youngest is a forth grade teacher. They are part of my family. Whenever they get together for a few days they will fix diced up SPAM and potatoes. They set there and eat it like it is the best steak in the world. When ever I see a can of SPAM my mind flashes back to those four little girls in that hut.

Spam has a museum at Albert Lea Mn. Went to Albert Lea in March for older brothers funeral. Visited the museum. Enjoyed. Wife likes Spam with scrammbled eggs.
John

chop it up real fine somehowhalf scramble some eggs, put it all in a big skillet with some kind of noodles(macoroni) and work it til the eggs are done. Don't get any better.

Spam is very popular in Hawaii among the native population. The supermarkets have several feet of shelf space devoted to it, many varieties and flavors.

Was shopping for some macadamia nuts for gifts, and believe it or not, they have Spam flavored macadamias! We have a "gag-gift" exchange at Christmas, so bought a can for that.

We used to have it pretty regularly when I was a kid- I loved it. Doesn't really fit the diet, now- but maybe I'll try the low cal, low salt variety.
