I have never seen someone get a tractor unstuck like that, kudos to him for accomplishing the job, kudos to him for not flipping that tractor over and crushing himself. I don't think I'll ever try it that way!

I've seen it done by chaining a log crossways in front of both rear tires- but that's more dangerous, I think, because if you go over the log and don't stop in time, two bad things can happen- log hits fenders, stops, and tractor rotates on over, or log hits operator and crushes him against the steering wheel.

This looks way better- what could possibly go wrong?

That's why I was never able to become an OSHA man- having a sense of humor disqualifies you immediately. They tell you a joke during the final interview- if you laugh, a large individual escorts you out of the building.

My buddy has a video of a WW2 training film showing how to get a tank unstuck. It showed these young men running to a small tree that just happened to be the perfect size, chopping it down , chaining it to the front of the track and driving out of the mud. The authoritative sounding voice on the film said "you WILL have this axe and this chain and this shovel on your vehicle. They will be used to free your vehicle". Some of you who were in the service probably remember those films. Jim

Cartoons like this came with my dad's new H around '48 or '49. Later when we were teenagers we remembered the method and it worked just fine to free the tractor. Now those cartoons seem very demeaning, like farmers aren't very bright and must be talked down to.
About 2/3 down the page.

It works if the tractor involved has an experienced operator, excellent brakes, low geared R, and is safest if the situation offers a pathway out in reverse direction.

Been there and done that. Scared me "cause I didnt have the front held down. Was is stupid, most likely but I learned from it.

Also informed my sons if grass is yellow stay out or you be stuck up to a$$.

I do that about once a year to get my 4020 out when mowing my marsh hay. I even have a special RR tie cut to length for the occasion. One of these years when that little voice in my head says "You barely sunk in that time, you can make just one more pass", I'll tell it to SHUT UP! :)

i actually saw this once before on here, and it came in handy this winter when i got my old Satoh hung up deep it the woods. I'll second the thought that reverse is probably the best direction to pull this off-the old riceburner reared like Silver!

unstuck a tractor this way once. used a telephone pole chained to both rear wheels just under the tranny. had to dig a hole to get it through. had to go forward as the disk was left behind.three hops and i was out.
