Proving My Son is Mistaken

Hey Dave2, Got into an argument with my 32 year son last night. e's saying the gas/fuel prices in the Father-Land is only $5.50 per gallon. He's been on line with several of his former German class mates in Frankfurt. I told him it had to (hard to believe at that price) 5 euro 50 per litre. So what's the skinny. He's looking at returning to Germany to work as a mason and work with his uncle at Idar-Oberstien, plus I beleive he wants to be close to a gal he dated and now they seem to be doing a long distance reunion/relationship now. I've been looking possibly going back myself (spent 23 years there in Military and contractor). I can't seem to buy work right now here in Colorado.

5 euro 50 per litre. ----------A litre..a tad more than a quart. Mot gallon like you"re talking...Even at that price a euro is more than a buck so it puts it at over 20...nah, too high, a Euro is $1.40 dollars...figure it out 4 litres to an imperial gallon and so on...

BO that's why I'm trying to get with Dave2 since he lives in Schweinfurt. 3.9 litres per gallon and as I figure it, it would be around $7.70 a gallon. Other posters from the UK and what Dave2 was saying not long ago the prices are around $7-8. I know if Dave2 has a Logistical Support job on base, he should be paying almost 50% less than the locals. American forces and civilians working for the American forces don't pay local taxes for fuels. We use to purchase fuel/gas coupons from the PX/BX to be used off post/base for our purchases.

1.50 euro per liter super and 1.45 per liter diesel x 3.8 x 1.40 = $

About $.80 per liter super and $.85 per liter diesel thru the military.

Dave

OK, I guess I should have googled my self. Just trying to get it from someone who lives there. Man, I hate when my son is correct.

Russ, I believe what you may have in your figures is 5.57 Euro per U.S. Gallon, then you have to hit if with the conversion rate of US$1.40 per 1.00 Euro, make it US$ 7.80 per gallon. Gas was over 5 dollers per gallon when I was in Germany back inthe 80s. Tom

We just did the math using Dave's numbers and come
up with $8 USD per US gal, I am surprised the
information I found on Google was so far off. When
you say super, is that regular gasoline, like you
would use in a four-wheeler? Do fuel prices vary
much around Germany?

super unleaded prices vary some with population and on/off the autobahn.

Depends on where you start with the conversion. Couple we how from from German just got back and said they changed 1500 buck US money into Euro in German and got 1000 Euros back. In the day while stationed in Germany it was 4 marks to the dollar.
