Forgetting a lot lately

I was greasing my track rollers on my A/C M today, and the pump ran out of grease. Thought I better buy another pail. I am in my shed where I store my lubs, and what do I see , but a new pail of grease. Just last week same thing on 40 wt oil I use. Went to the oil dealer and he said he only has it in 5 gal pails. About that time a light goes off in my head,I already bought a pail about 2 months ago. Sure enough got home there sits a 5 ga pail of 40 wt. I guess all I can do is take one day at a time. Stan

i kinda look at it as saving a trip to town...when my Dad died i didnt buy any oil, filters or grease for close to 4 years...he just bought it every time it was on sale...wish i had time to shop that much.

Same here.....If I'd go thru everything on the place, I could set 2 more guys up with enough tools and expendables to run a household.
Better to have and not need than need and not have..........

Dave

don't feel bad -- I forgot more than I'll ever remember I did. --- Make sense ?

They say when ya get older the best thing to do is get involved in forums like this even play some of the games to keep your mind sharper But I have yet to be able to write with an eraser.
here shoot a deer

there is an old saying, there is two things that you know that you"re getting old,[1] is that you can"t remember a thing, and [2] is um, lets see um, can"t think of what is was!

3 benefits of getting old & forgetful.
1- meet new friends every day
2- can hide your own Easter eggs
3- uhh, what was the topic?

It is when you know you have it but cannot remember where you put it and have to go buy it again and after you use what you just bought you find what you had. That is agrivating. Also forgeting how to spell.

(quoted from post at 23:06:10 03/27/11) I was greasing my track rollers on my A/C M today, and the pump ran out of grease. Thought I better buy another pail. Yeah, I'm like you Stan. Sometimes I can't remember where I put the tool I was just using 5 minutes ago. Memory is a weird thing. Just yesterday I took apart my toro snowblower because the plastic pinion gear stripped on the electric starter (again). Put all the parts in a plastic bag and labeled it "Toro snowblower parts" so I wouldn't lose them while I waited for the new gear to be ordered. Last time it was fixed (by a shop), they must have put a roll pin in the starter shaft to keep the gear on and I bent it during removal. I remembered having a small box of roll pins, could picture it in my head and went right to one of my many small parts cabinets and started opening drawers from the bottom. Lo and behold there they were (in the plastic box as I pictured it), in the 2nd drawer I opened. I bet it's been 10 or 15 yrs since I used them. Then I went looking for the plastic bag of parts to put the new roll pin in it. Took me probably 15 minutes in a 8x10 ft area of my basement to find it. As others said, I do crossword puzzles every day to keep my mind sharp, can't imagine what my mind would be like if I DIDN'T do them.

Three old geezers were comparing notes about how age affected them.

One said his eyesight just wasn't what it used to be. Another said his hearing was going.

The third said it was his memory. He commented, "Last night my wife and I were laying on the bed. She reached over and slapped me on my stomach and said, 'George, you've had it'. You know, I couldn't remember a thing about it".

To me, in my mess, I don't thnk it is age, the talking heads say the 21st century is too complicated for the 20th century human brain, we aren't 'evolving' as fast as the world around us. The idea that struck me the most, and I know it is my problem too, organization. It doesn't mater if you forgot you bought lubes last month, but like a parts picker cruising around a warehouse, if you went in the shed and saw it where is belonged, knew it was full, it would just click, and not even come up again. If you bury stuff, or like me, don't take it out of the bag and put it where it is kinda suppose to be, well, it will never end... got in the habit of not going grocery shopping unless checking the fridge, deep freeze and can goods before leaving, come home with less $ spent, and not over stuffing the shelves, which used to be more 'valuable clutter'. I have been trying to sort out everything in a sense of order, neighbor needed some stovepipe, I thought I had some. 10 minutes after he left, I'm walking down the road with 12feet of pipe from the last place you'd think it would be. But like chinese checkers, you need atleast one empty spot to move it to.... so the process continues.... don't think age- think spring cleaning!

An old lady got stopped for speeding. Cop asked her, what's the hurry? She said she had to get there as fast as she could before she forgot where she was going.

I did one about 10 years ago.
I was in the shop working on a small engine on the bench I had misplaced a special bent wrench I had made to take off some starters. now I am the only one in there and I had it a few min ago. --- Darned if I could find it. I got so out of shape about my memory loss that I did give it up-- spent the rest of the day wondering if it was me or something going wrong. didn't find it till I took off my clothes and in the Ruler pocket on the leg of my Jeans it was there .

"Just when I got it all together, I forgot where I put it."

I wouldn't worry too much about duplicating on supplies- like someone below said, some guys just buy stuff they know they'll need, whenever they see it on sale. Its an impulse buy, so doesn't make much of an impression on you.

I have found it helps to kind of have a place for different kinds of things, and when you buy that kind of thing, get it to its place as soon as possible, before it gets buried.

Elderly wife sends husband to the store for a loaf of bread. He returns with half gallon of ice cream. She looks in the bag and says "You forgot the chocolate syrup."

Everybody get your B12 level, checked. Mine was very low. Took shots to get it back up. Memeory i.s somewhat better now, not great but better.

Trust me, you are not alone.
I've got the same thing, but pretty bad.
Doesn't help knowin my Dad's got Alzheimers.
Not sure if that's genetic.
Sure feels like its comin on, some days.

Especially walk in to get a tool, then stand there for five minutes trying to figure out why I came in to the machine shed.
Same thing with supplies, tools, etc...don't know if I bought them already or if I was just thinkin about pickin them up...then the search is on, lol.
Stuff like that, frustrating, but I just roll with it.
I just blame it on way too many concussions in my life, lol.

Glad I don't have a memory problem, yet. My memory is so big, I just can't find the stuff I put in it. Look around for hours, no, days, no, weeks, then...there it is.

Dont fuss ,its part of getting old.Short term memory is shot but I remembered where the basin wrench was that I hadnt used for 20 years. My dad remembered things that happened 80 years ago with no trouble. As long as I can find my way home when I go fishing I dont care.My Border Collie barks when I should make a turn When driving.
