O/T What can you do now...?

That you couldn't do when younger? I can no longer throw around 70 lb. hay bales all day long, but since retirement have learned to chair a meeting and even do some public speaking- which I couldn't do 20 years ago.
How 'bout you - what have you learned to do you once couldn't do?

Delegate! Get some younger person to do what I can no longer do, or no longer WANT to do. Trouble is, the list isn"t shrinking very fast. Young people don"t seem to want those jobs.

I can't lift what I use to be able to. When I was young it didn't matter what it was if it needed moved I just picked it up & moved it. I feel I'm still in good shape. Things just seem heavier.
I have learned to relax though. That is something that I was never able to do when I was young. Gerald

at 54, that holds true for me too , am told i can really defend or sell something i believe in,, today ,i am a Better Dad , Now , but i can;t see as good as i used to , I plan my days and my work strategically instead of just going willy -nilly til i get things done .. saves energy and steps .. But SNAfus still occur ...

I can pop and crack when I walk....Not sure that's anything I was looking forward to when younger, but...

Seem to be a bit better at making (and saving) money as I got older too. That IS a good thing.

A lot better at controling my temper.
Quit drinking 14 years ago,so now I can go a day without the 10 or 12 beers I "did a day then.
But I can't lift,or stand a long time.
Can't sleep long without getting up for B'room call either...........

Keep my mouth shut and my ears open.
Also learned how to control my temper
I"m a big man 300 plus pounds always been big over the years its cost me alot for damage I"ve done fortunately items not people

Big Ed
I used to get up multiple times a night, too, for BR "call". My wife had told me multiple times that I quit breathing multiple times during the night, and I wasn't sleeping well. It was during those interuptions of good sleep when I'd get those BR calls.

What can I do now? Sleep almost every night all night without that BR call. Thankfully, she encouraged me do a sleep study. Yes, I have sleep apnia and sleep with a mask. BUT sleep all night without waking multiple times and wake rested. The technician said that at one time she was ready to wake me during the sleep study because I didn't breath for 72 seconds. Blood oxygen is depleting during those times. It will take a little while to get used to sleeping with the mask - but it's well worth it!

Guys - if this sounds familiar, GET THAT SLEEP STUDY!! You and your wife will be glad you did.

Quit drinkin' and smokin' about 18 years ago, became a church goer and refound God. I haven't had a guilty complex over anything in the last 10 years. I'm not perfect and never will be, but I'm sure a lot happier than I used to be. Life is good....in spite of the poor shape our country is in, where it seems headed, and the ignorant people we have chosen to lead us....I have faith!

I quit smoking 47 years ago, so I guess I can't count that. I was smoking two packs a day when I met my wife of now 45 years. On our second date she admitted she's allergic to tobacco smoke, among other things. I took a pack of cigarettes out of my shirt pocket on the spot, threw them in a trash can, and haven't touched one since.

Now, at 76, overall I'd say I'm in better health than I was 30 or 40 years ago. Just have a few more random aches and pains I ignore. A few issues I had in my younger days have resolved themselves.

When my wife had bypass surgery a few years ago, I found out I can still go without sleep for over 40 hours and still function. '

Over the years, I've honed my skills at auto body work and through my present job of insurance inspector, I've honed my building trades skills.

Don S, Sure would love to have just 8 years back. Wasn't in quite as bad a shape then. diabetes.bi lateral neuropathy ,loss of strength etc. Seems I burnt the candle at both ends during my life. When I got married, it was the best thing that happened for me. Got a wonderful wife.So now I just get to sit and do what I can to help. still on the top side of the grass. Thank the Good Lord.Made it to 75 + . Regards LOU.

I am a youngster compared to many on here. I am just sixty. My eyes require glasses to see real small. My legs are not as strong as they used to be. My wounds from Vietnam show themselves now and then, but all in all I feel pretty good. I can"t take the heat like I used too. I have learned to control my temper much better. I do plan ahead more now rather than just going full steam until the work was done. I have been blessed with good loving women in my life. I have no desire to relive my life. I am happy with my family and what I have. I keep watching for that mid-life crisis it must have passed me by. LOL

TYhe only thing I do better now is not letting everything bother me. I had a bad temper, was drunk a lot, smoked like a furnace. Quit dringking and smoking within a month of each oher almost died from internal bleeding, got 4 metal joints n and had cancer. That all tended to mellow me out and now I,m getting divorced from my third wife. Almost 80 years old and can hardly wait to see what else is in store for my Golden Years coming up.

Everybody on here has gotten wiser, I can't say that I think I have gotten dummer, and lazier. I still say the wrong things at the wrong times to my wife. My faith in God has gotten stronger. I find myself staying home from things I usted to couldn't miss. I go to ball games I don't care for, because I'm supposed to. Life is a beach and then you die LOL Vic

I now have the patience and foresight to use more perfection and flair in my work, almost to the point of obsession. I'm thinking more 'out of the box' now too. Why build something that anyone can build? Every project I do is tougher than the last one. In my younger days I admired perfection and probably had the talent but was in too big of a hurry and had too short of a temper to practice it. So I threw things together fast and sloppy. Like JD Seller, I'm just 60 but the body just doesn't let me work on something 14 hours a day anymore. Jim
