O/T Speaking of the workplace

Does seem crazy, but obviously he had his reasons. Coulda just been fed up with his past job. I know I've been there and would've taken a loss at times just to get out.

Here"s a question for thought,

A friend of mine just got a new job.He drives about 500 miles a week and gets paid 13 something an hour for 32-35 hrs. He left a job were he got 13something an hr and time and a half on saturdays usually 4 hrs per week.Total of 40 to 44 hrs per week. At the last job he drove 32 miles per day. Does this make sense to any of you or is it just me that thinks this is crazy?

Don,

I have been there also, But then he goes back and works on days he has off from the new job. So if the last place was so bad why go back and work there anyway?

There can be lots of reasons to quit and take less pay. Perhaps he sees this job ending, he is sick of working weekend overtime, or the other job has a brighter future, offers better training, working conditions, maby he is planning to move cause he found the right girl there, who knows. If he is your friend why not ask him ?

Chris,

He has the girl were he is, and I have asked him and he has no answer. I am only looking for outside opinions here. It is his choice but thiught I would see what others thought. Did you read my second post?

Sounds to me like he sees more future with the new job, but still needs the money from the old one. My last job(12 years ago) I got paid $9 per hour and worked 50 to 55 hours per week as a young single guy, but quit to take a job at $7 per hour and only 40 hours per week. It SUCKED for the first few years, but now make up for the lost wages and make a decent living. Gonna try it again I think so I remember how bad a pay cut hurts!

I dont know, I took a 50 percent pay cut a few years ago. Best thing I ever did. Before I couldnt sleep at night, always worried about stuff, bad management, the works. Since I left I've had 7 nights in 5 years when I couldnt sleep and my blood pressure is down 10 points.

Best I can figure, going back as a casual part timer is helping him to make up for the money crunch in the change. Maybe lots less headaches knowing he can walk away.

If you have a job that you hate to get up and go to I could see why one would leave. When I got out of school I didn't know what I wanted to do. I didn't want to stay on the farm. The Korean War had started and my brother joined the Air Force a few days after we graduated. I put in for a job with the US government testing mostly Army vehicles and their engines on dynanmometer stands. It didn't pay much, but I liked the work. I started as a WG-5 and about 18 months later I was drafted and after serving 2 years in the Army I found out I would be rehired at my old position. Over the years I was protmoted to WG-19 and then we were converted to the GS pay scale where I was a GS-11. Not bad for a kid off the farm with just a high school education. I stayed 43 years and that includes my military time. I worked a lot of overtime and traveled a lot, but that was part of the job. I took my wife along on a lot of those travels. WE will soon be married 58 years. I was offered a lot of positions within the government that paid more money, but that was usually sitting at a desk and I stayed where I enjoyed the work. Hal

Some employers go out of their way to make you miserable on the job. My employer banned the use of radios in the shop, just yesterday. I fail to see how they think I'll be more productive in the frame of mind that they put me in. It is hard to get a lot done while dragging a "Battleship anchor" around.
