how Much corn

I "THINK" there are 7 1/2 gallons in a measured bushel.7.333 bushels of shelled corn in a 55 gallon barrel? 5 gallons of ground corn weighs about 30# =330# of ground corn in a barrel---I think.

Here in the feed mill I put 300# of shelled corn in a 55 gallon barrel. It will hold a little more but that is all we put in for the convenience of handling. A previous poster said 330#, that is probably correct if you filled it full.

Ear corn would be a little tougher call, probably 250-275#. That would be just short of 4 bushels at 70#/bu.

Shelled corn in my 55 gallon drum comes out to be 300# give or take a pound or two. Depending on the test weight of the corn.

When I bait for our hog hunts I was getting right around that 300 lb mark as well from our local mill. Shelled corn with a few stalks and debris.

How many gallons does a bushel basket hold?

The old farmers used these rough estimates for dry shell corn:

10 gallons per bushel. So 55 gallons/10 gallons per bushel = 5.5 bushels.

0.8 bushels per cubic foot shell corn.

0.4 bushels per cubic foot ear corn.

8 gallons per cubic foot.

There are plenty of very precise conversion charts availble, just look them up on the internet.
