Idea for removable wheel weight using snap on dual

I've got a 100 hp tractor I mow with using a mounted mower conditioner. (Pottinger 305) The mower is 10 ft cut and unlike a discmower, the weight is carried by the tractor so the bar doesn't drag hard. Mower weighs 2500 lbs and is 10 ft past the tire obviously.

This unweights the outside tire quite badly, especially when mowing with the mower down hill. Unknown to me my tractor had this tire loaded with 1000 lbs of calcium, but I don't want to load the new tires.

I think the bolt kit for wheel weights will only let me stack 3 x 108 lbs on this outside tire.

I was thinking if I got a rusted out 34" snapon dual rim, and old 30" rim, I could weld up a donut to be filled with about 1000 lbs of lead that I could pop on and off for mowing. I have another tractor with a loader to mount it or I could make a parking stand for it.

Ever been done? Am I just going to break j hooks and eyelets?

you could get rim guard instead of calcium if you didnt mind filled tires. it is non toxic and no rust also center of gravity would be lower.

I have mounted 6 105# wheel weights on 3 pieces of 5/8 all thread on a 4020. Just nut both sides of the all thread where it comes through the hub.
Another choice would be the 1000# weight bolted to the inside of the hub

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I wouldn't think the fasteners would be under the kind of grief they would holding a dual wheel/tire on. It's amazing what that spacer lodged into the rims will take. I am a fan of ballasting according to need rather than just having a lot of weight everywhere.
Great idea!

I've seen many valve stems damaged installing and removing clamp on duals. I have seen pullers use a homemade tube bolted to the rear wheel and they just slide a number of rear weights on them and lock the whole bunch down all together, very quickly, to meet diff. weight classes. They were made for specific brands of weights. Just a thought!
PS I think you said you were installing new tires. If so, when the tire is off weld a valve stem guard on the rim.

Hay Bob, about the same here started about noon, wind from the ENE @ 6-12mph. I don't think it will be a biggy, but the cold looks like it will last through the weekend. Its 23F and dropping.

The stems face in on the tires, but I will weld some rings on. A neighbour caught a 3 ph stabilizer bar on their stem on the inside, loaded tire sprayed all over the field and tractor, rusted a lot of stuff up and cost quite a bit for the service call.

The new tires are 600 or 650 x 65 x 34 radials, really wide, and standard tubes don't fit. Would take a whack of cacl to get over the rim. Don't need it all the time, and don't need it in the side the mowers on.

Also find unloaded tires ride much better.
