Furnace Oil - OW!

Just got delivery of furnace oil. $1.15/liter or our American friends, that's $4.17/US gallon. More than gasoline. And i remember the days when i put 60 gallons of gas through a Massey 85. Even fueling the Ford 5000 this spring is going to hurt. And I feel for the guys having to fuel big tractors for x thousands of acres.

Ya and it's even worse when you find out the pump has been leaking on your furnace.

we bought the place we are living in in 1996..I remember filling the oil tank for .29/litre. Eight years ago we installed a combination wood/ oil furnace. Ran for the balance of that first winter with the oil coming on at 60 F After that first year the programable thermostat started giving trouble and the oil burner has not fired since. I guess that first tank of oil that was delivered when the furnace was new will have to wait a little longer to get burnt.

Nearly 40 years ago with the arab oil embargo going on it was frequently discussed how wasteful it was to use oil as a home heating fuel. Fuel oil is one of the highest density energy sources available (wonder what jet airplanes burn) and should be saved for transportation fuel. Isn't it amazing what we've learned in the past few decades?

I just gave $1.14 a litre for furnace fuel. I am in a remote mining town in south central Yukon. I only use about $100 a year though. Other wise I am 100% wood. Gerald

It'll probably cost us $400 a day to fill our combines with fuel.

Last year it was around a $100 to fill my tractor with diesel. This year it will probably be 150 if not more.

In Aust.I see West Texas crude is $101.50 a barrel also Brent crude has risen.useless info. why would the news casters tell us that, when all our fuel comes from Singapore where Tapis oil is $121 per barrel.selling last week at $1.369 per litre. [Approx 4.55 litres to imperial gal.] We used to abound in refineries but I think there is only one Caltex here now.
The Pollies like to think they are in charge but I think their hands are in the wrong place.The kind of stroke where you don't need a Doctor.]
Yesterday $US== $AU 1.009.

A commercial airliner uses more fuel in 1 hour than my furnace uses in 5 years.Ever see the map that shows how many airliners are in the air at a given time.
