OT: Land survey question

A land description of a farm I grew up on says: "section 18, in township 100 North, Range 11....now this is not the complete description and as I understand it this property is 100 townships north of the base line for northern Iowa. If each township it 6 miles square, then the base line must be 100 x 6 miles or 600 miles south of this land and that would put it about on the southern border of Missouri. I must be missing something, but what?

Delta County,(where I live) has 3 surveys-the Nebraska,the NewMexico,and a little one'The Ute'.Our home is in the Nebraska,about a mile north of the NewMexico.

Just did some checking. Only answer i can figure is that surveys taken at different times had different base lines.
Grew up in Jay Twp, Martin Co, Mn. Remember clearly it shown as T 102N, R 33W.
Now live in Chengwatonna Twp, Pine Co, Mn. Plat shows it as T 39N, R21W.
Have to look at Randy McNally to visualize locations. The Range West seems to fit close, but Twp North doesn't.
Clear as mud, but that covers the ground.

Bingo, the map link from Soder33 below clears up my question.
The area I grew up is in the green zone, with a base line in Ar, where I am now is in the yellow zone, base line at Wi/Il border.
Thanks

Those lines have to be adjusted and offset every so often. Think of trying to mold a flat piece of paper (map) around a sphere (earth). It's gonna overlap or run over itself.

Not all sections have 640 acres. The "correction sections" are more or less, again to make up for the curvature of the earth.
