You know what Really stinks?

That doesn't look like the engine or rear end I saw when I picked up that tank, did you already complete that project?

Hi Rich,
Same project, different year.
Ran out of weather about the time you were here last fall so it's been sitting all winter. Finally getting some warm days again.
This one is getting parted to fix the one you saw. Yeah, sux doing it outside but somebody's gotta do it.

There are a few good arguments for working outside. Potential for fumes collecting or worse igniting is near nil. My garage is in the basement and several times I have had to ventilate the house. Unintentional spills, bumped aerosol cans, and ventless heaters are a bad mix. My project was moved outside.

I was going to say, that engine sure doesn't look as clean as the one I saw last fall. Don't feel bad, my tractor has been sitting all winter as well.

I made the mistake of putting some old gas in my tractor tank. I had a real bad case of stuck valves. Learned my lesson on that one. I have some diesel that is over 50 years old in a barrel. It looks good enough to use, and doesn't smell bad either. I use it in my steam cleaner with no problems. Stan

Yes, it does stink, and it just ain't much good for anything EXCEPT for killing the weeds in a fencerow.

Changing times I guess. 30 years ago (I was 16), I had a leaking gas tank. Was asking a guy how to fix it and he said I could just take the tank from the car behind the barn if I would clean up so he could get to it (smart guy). Looked to have been back there 10 years or more judging by what I had to cut to get to it. Anyway, there was almost 15 gallon of gas in it. Dumped that gas right back in after I swapped tanks and that old car never ran as good as it did with that old gas.

Back when I was a kid, I started messing with the engine on the 1966 Skidoo that Dad had stored in the basement. It hadn't been run in at least 10 years, and the gas had turned to varnish.

Stunk up the whole house, and boy were the folks ticked.

Dad rebuilt the carburetor, got it running. We rode it once, then parked it back in the basement where it's been sitting ever since.
