Hydraulic noise

I put on the case board but no takers. My 4494 makes alot of hydraulic noise the last 2 times I've run it - specifically when I use the 3 pt hitch. These last 2 times have had a couple things in common - 1st is temp - about 30deg F - cold for normal use- I never warmed it up, just moving around yard - 2nd is the hydraulic oil level was about 5 gal over full - after draining down it has done it when run. Sounds like the pump is maxed out along with metal grinding only when hitch is raised- hitch raises fine everything operates good - remotes are stiff and powershift is slower - but they work ok and its colder - The guys who had it B4 me used lucas additive so it is thicker than hytran. Do I have a leak on my suction side of the pump where I'm sucking air, is the oil just that stiff - or is it time to send her packing. Gonna try new filters and oil first.

It sounds like there is something mechanical that went bad and the previous owner thought the Lucas oil treatment would repair it or stop the noise. Not sure if Lucas is recommended for a powershift trans. either. It almost sounds like the old "throw some STP in it to get it sold" deal. You might be looking at some expensive repairs. Lucas and other oil treatments can help with minor problems like leaks or slipping but no additive, other than money, will fix a problem with broken internal parts.

If I read that temp right - 30 deg f I can't belive they work at all! and you never warm it up, why not? I warm up my hyd lines with a small torch till I can see the hyd oil moveing in the res. tank when the temp is around + 15* only then do I speed up the engine above idle.
