There's a lot more to breeding quality dogs than "making your money back". At a minimum dogs need to be two years old to evaluate physical traits. Tests for OFA, CERF, and herding abilities. Doo you want to have quality pups or just a bunch of pet shop puppy mill inbreeds?
Sorry about the rant but I once bred some of the top bird dogs in the US. And it takes at least 15 years of breeding lines to produce outstanding pups.
There's better ways to make money than selling mill pups for $50

Ha ha Dave 2 your comment rings true here, went to look at a sheltie pup brought home four.Nice looking pup .

Gordo, could I get you to speak to the folks here in MO? People need to hear from a responsible breeder. Getting them to listen is another matter.

these pups cost way more than $50 we drove 4 hours to get her because of color and the imbreeding possibilities she is registerd we have 2 males here of different colorings one is a local born other we drove 3 ours in opposite driection to get his parents are registered we just didnt have him done wife knows what she needs for breeding she probably has told me i just didnt listen dont really care its her deal not mine ill let her handle it

and i know for a fact the one males parents come from long line of hearders he was hearding cattle for first time at 1 y/o was doing better job than us humans and he never had a lick of training for it tried heard wifes horses once he didnt fair to well on that one think he learned his lesson

JDM.......Gordo has it right, quality dogs take time to raise BEFORE breeding, do the testing.

In 1972, I was having trouble moving 20-angus beef cows from irrigated paddock to paddock so I started looking for good Border Collie. My 2 cowboy brothers-in-laws said I did not want a BC, they recommended Australian Shepherd. Never heard of AS so went to library to look'em-up. Turns out iff'n it ain't AKC, it ain't a dog. No AS in the books. Turns out, I found an AS in the want-ads before I found BC. My BIL's were right. They also didn't think much of my Angus's. One thought Herefords were the way to go; the other thought Shorthorns were the best. Go figger?

I have since buried 8-Aussies on my RockyRidge SheepStation at the foot of 14K Mt Rainier .......Dell, head shepherd and Aussie lover

PS......for those looking for a GOOD dog, I recommend Aussie RESCUE. They've been tested and evaluated ...and... they are potty broke!!!

We have had Border Collies for years and years. Their immune system seems to be fragine until about a year old as we have lost a few. Don't worry about driving a few hours and spending a few extra dollars on the pup. You will spend far more on routine vet bills.
Hope you got to see both the mother and father.
Good luck.
Bill.

If you think you can "make money" with them, you'll loose interest quick. Main thing is that you enjoy the dogs. I was looking for an English Sheperd with no luck when I saw an ad for australian sheperds. Didn't know what they were so googled and found them to be about the same dog. Went and picked my old girl out when she was 2 weeks old. Picked her up at 10 weeks and was like Abe Lincoln (I did what????).. She looked (and still does) like she had been shot at and missed and sh!t at and hit. Took her anyway, and she was MY DOG. Several pair of shoes on the porch and she would only take/chew up mine. Go for a walk with her, the wife, and a couple other dogs and she won't be more than 3ft away from me. No other dogs (than our own) can come close to me and she is worse than my wife about wanting to know where I am and why she can't be with me. She's completely worthless and comes from a long line of butt sniffers. Pops out 8 babies in a litter once a year or so and is the best mom you ever saw. Puppies are all like her if you leave them alone, but people can ruin animals quick. They don't get any training from me other than "NO" or "Good girl/boy" and are the perfect dog. Happy to run 10 miles with you or lay on the couch and watch TV with the same enthusiasm. Left my old girl to herself one day with 6 or 7 horses on a pasture. She worried herself to death. Came back about an hour later and she was laying in the middle of the group and had "sorted" them by colors (??) to how she thought they should be and was happy. Gonna be a sad day when she goes........

Dave2,

You're the first person I've heard of in many years who even knew what an English Shepherd was/is.

I got one for my birthday in about 1942 and had him for 13 or 14 years. Wonderful livestock dog and faithful companion. Sent him after a skunk once and he couldn't figure out why I wouldn't have anything to do with him for a week.

My EX FIL had a black English Sheperd named Sam. He was passed around to anyone that wanted him until I was stationed in MO and lived in the boonies. Took him with us and he went everywhere I did. Went to work and would run PT, set back and watch the formation and hang out in the motorpool with whoever called his name and gave him a pat. I've found the Australian Sheperds to be about the same if they aren't bred too much. Scary smart too.

Was raised around collies, now I've got an Aussie we found on craigslist. She came from a breeder in MO but the owner couldn't keep her due to her child having lukemia.

Left her at my parents when my wife and I drove to Iowa for a week and she herded the chickens when they got out.

We had a collie who had never been trained to herd, but he still helped to herd some of the cattle when they got out in late February quite a while back. He died about a week later but we never figured out what did it. Was a great dog to have as a kid.

(quoted from post at 18:59:45 03/15/11) You must have been stationed at Fort Lost-in-the Woods?

When was that? I was there in 1960.

not really looking to make money just try to get back what i invested in these ones i have a feeling they cost a little more here than they do in germany but im not sure $300 is the cheapest ive seen them but get the right color and eye color with reg. papers they can be as much as $1500 times that by your litter of 8 pups thats a decent investment

here are pic's of mom and dad.
dad is a reg. red-tri and mom is a reg. blue merle. both are nice & healthy, beautiful & good blood lines.
