Am I just getting older? Or?

I just opened my spring tax assessemnt here in a county of Western, Pa. In addition to the going milage charge, we are now being charged an addititional 15% to pay down the county debt. Of the property owners in our county 40% pay the taxes ,while 60% have some exemption. We vote for politicians because they are supposed to be able to do the job, yet they continue to spend money that they don"t have? Isn"t it theft and why aren"t politicians ever held accountable?

They are, by the 60% that they cater to. This is one of the last stages of democracy; when the takers outnumber the providers.

Started out as help for underpriveleged and they were embarrassed to let it be known that they were getting assistance. Now it has become an entitlement and demanded without shame. Everybody is wanting their share without reguard to the consequences. Grab as much as you can as soon as you can.

you're getting wiser not just older (which is a good thing. The alternative to growing old ain't so great).

I agree that our govts (national, state, local) have become piggy banks for everyone who thinks they're "entitled" to something.

Funny thing is that here in Michigan, we have a new governor who is trying to get the State back on the right track and as a result, everyone's ox is getting gored. So EVERYONE is screaming: "Don't touch MY special deal". Here, public retirees pensions are NOT taxed at the State level. Private pensions ARE taxed but above a certain amount. We've got public retirees getting pensions that are sometimes twice what they earned when on the job and NOT paying taxes on them.

Yet when the governor proposes taxing pensions to help balance the budget, busloads of senior citizens roll into the state capitol.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how voters expect someone to eliminate deficit spending WITHOUT ACTUALLY CUTTING SPENDING or INCREASING REVENUE! It's impossible.

Synder wants to cut biz taxes by 1.8B. To make up for that, he wants in tax pensions and low income folks more???

Gosh, maybe ya should thank me. You made me feel so bad I canceled my doctors appointment today. That saved the tax payers almost 100 bucks or more.

Dont stop paying taxes though cause I might still have to go. At 73 ya never know.

Oh by the way Vern. I agree 100% with your statment. That was meant to be a tongue in cheek kinda thing.
I had to much on my plate this morning to spend time at the doctors office.

I get a private pension. For every public pension, there are 10 folks collecting a private pension.

Wife went to the chiropractor because her back hurt. He did his thing and fixed her up then said. It will cost a certain amount unless we can come up with a good reason for Medicare to pay. She said what, and he asked what have you been doing. Of course she was doing nothing out of the ordinary. He said have you been shoveling snow to which she said yes. He said that's what caused the problem so we can bill medicare. She shoveled a lite dusting of snow off the porch and there was no lifting. It seems the government pays for every little thing now while we wonder what went wrong that caused The National Debt to spiral out of control.

Maybe you need an investigation into the county operations by the Secret Service, FBI and IRS like the one going on in Luzerne county.

One county commissoner is in jail. 2 sitting judges will be going to jail. One judge made a plea deal and the other went to trial and was found guilty on various charges.

Various county administration personel made plea agreements some will be serving time and some recieved probation.

Some school board members from various districts are in trouble for taking bribes for jobs. And the beat goes on.

Luzerne County voters have voted to go with a Home Rule form of government.

Remember reading years ago that democracy will last until people learn they can vote themselves money. That time has arrived, in my opinion.

That's a nice sound bite. The net effect may be a cut in business taxes, but that's not a bad thing. Businesses don't pay taxes, people pay taxes. Businesses pass on the cost of doing business (taxes included) to their customers, you and me. Under Snyder's plan, businesses will pay a 6% corporate income tax and small business owners will pay at individual tax rates. Seems pretty fair.

NOBODY wants to pay more taxes but I'm tired of the entitlements, special exemptions, etc. There's an old saying: "Don't tax me, tax that feller behind the tree".

Plus, the Michigan Single Business Tax is terrible. When I was a small business owner even when I didn't make a profit or lost money I STILL paid the SBT.

What I want a stop to is the sweetheart pensions and lifetime healthcare given to public employees that are NOT the norm in private enterprise.

Tell me: how can a Sheriff's deputy (neighbor of mine in Macomb County) retire with a $79,000/yr pension (untaxed by the state) at 45 yrs old (yes, RETIRING AT 45 yrs old) when his annual wage was $54,000/yr? If he lives to 75 or so, he'll make way more in retirement than he ever did on the job. Plus, the County Finance chief wrote a deal for County workers few years ago that let them keep working for up to 5 years before retiring (getting their normal paychecks) while collecting (in an escrow account) their pensions. He was the first one to sign up for it and walked away last year with a check for almost $400,000 from the escrow account. That's on top of a pension that most County families would be able to raise their kids off of and STILL have a nice lifestyle. It's criminal. I see in Snyder a man who will put a stop to all this. I'll end up paying more taxes when I retire in a few years, but that's fair if the rest of citizens' have to as well, including "rich" people whom everyone loves to think should shoulder the whole burden.
