steam washer

hello
i was wondering if anybody on here uses a steamer with a lye solution to take a tractor down to bare metal to prep for painting? Im not talking about a pressure washer, just a straight steamer. I am planning on painting a few of my tractors and was figuring on using this methoid to strip off the grease and paint. Can a person still buy just a straight steamer? where can a person get lye at? any help is appreitated. Thanks

I used oven cleaner. Spray or spread it on and wrap in plastic. Hose it off. Next day. I would do it outside, though. Never know about chemical reactions. As for the paint there are several strippers out there. Aircraft stripper is good but expensive I hear. (Don't ask me about accidently mixing stainless cleaner with udder (iodine) cleaner.)

Take lye, water and add enough corn starch to make a thick gravey and brush it on the metal and let it work and spray with a mist of water ocasionaly to keep it damp then after 5 to 6 hrs hose off with LOW pressure then hit wiyh a power washer works great

I will add to what 730lp says that you can easily get a commercial oven cleaner by the gallon at any restaurant supply place and add the corn starch to it. While you are there pick up a gallon of scale remover to use for acid wash. works the same as Ospho or Picklex at 1/8 the money.
