goose chasing my son

We went for a walk tonight and as we were walking past a pond there were a few huge white geese on the bank. So my 7 year old thought it would be fun to chase them into the water. I told him not to as they were not nice and they would peck at him. He said "dad Im way tougher than a goose so Im not scared" and he ran after them. They started honking and started coming after him! I laughed so hard and when he got to me he was ------ and mad at me for it!

Those Geese are smart and have a long memory. The farmer I worked for in High School had a big male named Charlie, he was the oldest daughter's pet, and didn't like anyone else. I was crossing the barnyard one day, and here he came, honking and biting my heels. I turned around and booted him back about ten feet. For the rest of his life he made a wide circle around me, never got within 30 feet. My size 11 just didn't appeal to him, I guess.

Susan as a child had a neighbor that had a "watch goose"-tougher than any dog!She still wears the scar where she was "bitten"50+ years ago.

I don't like them "gooses" my granddad had a flock that he put in the cotton patch in summer between hoeing and picking time. I was 7 yrs. old, it was my job to herd them devils across the road from the pen to the field every morning, tote water to them all day and herd them back late in the evening. there was a old gander that would get after me ever morning and every evening. I messed up one evening and let him get behind me, that dude caught me on the calf of my leg, had on short pants, and hung on, back in thoses days people scraped their yards and swept then with brooms made from dogwood limbs, I was trying to run and get away from him, he was flopping his wings and holding on.I finally got loose and saw that old brush broom proped up on the side of the house, I grabbed it and I set in on that dude, beating the fool out of him, it was his time to cry then,I was beating him and he was doing some honking, grandma came out on the porch and said"BOY WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU ARE GOING TO KILL THAT OLD GANDER" Isaid "I DON'T CARE IF I DO HE BIT ME" Never had anymore trouble with him after that!!

when i was a kid, the neighbor had a goose, they were very poor, but they always had a yard full of junk, so the goose had no where to do goosey stuff, we had a nice green yard, that gave the neighbor boy "richie" an excuse to come "look" for his goose, but it was more about looking in our garage and house windows than looking for the goose,

one day the goose was in the yard, no big deal, goose was just doing goosey things, but shure enough here come 'ol richie , but to his surprise i was home, after a few choice words and a few threats richie decided to get his goose and get home, he picked up a stick and whacked goosey in the back of the head, poor goosey just laid flat out! richie picked up goosey and headed back home, only about half way home goosey came back to life, duno what all was a happening, but all i heard was a lot of "KWACKWAK WAK WAK" then richie hollering like he had a hold of a rattle snake!

haha,

btw the family eventually were on TV, when the county came and took there animals .

We used to have some geese around the place about 30 years ago, and they make pretty good watch dogs. But we had a pretty good watch dog that was a dog, Elsa. Those geese did not like Elsa and when ever they got the change, they would tear into her, and naturally she'd defend herself, and that's the part our mother always caught, Elsa defending herself, and poor Elsa would get whacked with the broom, "Elsa, you let them geese alone", and she'd run hide. Elsa never went after them geese unprovoked (pecked and bitten). Everyone had witnessed it but Mom. One time we were not at home and obviously the geese went after Elsa one time too many, and Mom wasn't home to save them that time. Dead geese and feathers when we got home. I never missed them. "Good girl, Elsa" pat, pat, pat from me.

When I was about 3, dad was raising a goose for Thanksgiving, I think- I was in the yard, goose attacked, I screamed, Dad came out and grabbed goose, carried it through the garage into the woodshed, I heard a "WHACK" of the ax. We had the goose dinner early.

Also watched a woman helping her son feed a goose in a park. Looked away a second, when I looked back, woman was whacking the goose with her purse, kid was hysterical.

Mean, nasty animals.

we had geese when i was a kid...still swear up and down thats why i'm bald now...geese useta pick my head clean all tha time.

Had a half dozen geese when I was around eight or ten years old. Don't know what for though. Been bit a few times by them. Never new when they might come flying at you and hissing. Maybe it was a decoy for the Manorman when he brought bread. Mon always got a few loaves of fresh bread and about four loaves of day old bread for the geese. Ate a lot of day old bread when I was a kid. Eight in the household and two loaves?

Walking/biking trails everywhere here. Just about everywhere they pass a body of water or creek/river there are ducks, geese, and swans there to take advantage ogf all the gawkers. Ducks are OK, gease can be a nuisance but usually let you chase them away, but the swans can get pretty hateful.

When I was very young I figured it would be good to give a swan a piece of the hot dog I was eating. I can still remember seeing that hot dog go in and come right back out and was that swan P.O.'d. It came after me with everything it had just a squacking, flapping, and pecking for all it was worth. They have no fear of humans and for good reason, they can defend themselves.

I decided once it would be fun to have a pair of geese.

Got a kid's wading pool for them, etc. Turned out to be a bad idea. They fouled the wading pool out about every 3 or four days. Then it had to be cleaned and refilled. That got old real quick and the pool left. Got tired of what they left behind real quick, too.

Goose decided to nest right where I had to walk to get to the hay. Gander was somewhat aggressive, but I wasn't afraid of him. He would try to peck me and I would grab him by the neck. Finally gave those nasty things away.

Working on my FIL's boat dock with him and a neighbor. At some point, some wild geese flew in and were swimming near the dock. After a while, one got up on the dock, about 20' away, and we remarked about how he didn't seem afraid of us at all. I suppose lots of people around the lake feed them, and they're used to it.
All during the afternoon the goose kept getting closer and closer to us, and after a while the neighbor turned around to find the goose trying to chase him off the dock. For a few seconds we weren't sure who was going into the water, but after a few kicks, the goose retreated.

20 years ago my dad raised 15 Chinese Geese, big suckers when full grown. (standing 30+ inches.) My oldest son was 5 and intimidated by them, dad just told him "Just show 'em you're not afraid. Grab a stick, and give them buggers a love tap and they will respect ya" Once my boy found they wouldn't come close if he was "armed", he felt confident enough to herd them around the barn yard!
All animals will take the upper hand and be pushy, if you let them.

There is a couple of swans in the lake behind my house. The male looks to be at least 40 pounds. Mean and very territorial. I've tried lots of different things to keep him away, he usually comes back even more ------ off. He even attacks my lawn mower. So far the best thing to drive him away is to get in his element, he left me alone for an entire summer after chasing him with the RC boat.

Yep geese are not to be messed with unless you want a fight. Years ago we had a goose we called the Honk-A-Nator he was a big gander and there was a guy who hauled gravel out of the creek that would stop and tease that goose. One day the goose got him right between the legs and they guy picked up something to go after him and I told the guy drop it you where teasing him so you got what was coming to you. Some how after that day the guy stop teasing that goose. Oh by the way if you turned your back on the goose he would in fact come after you
