Adjusting electric trailer breaks

Jack the trailer up and adjust them til they just start to drag, then back off one notch. You want them just as tight as you can get them without them running hot.

Many years ago, that's how we did almost all brakes, before self adjusting brakes. Too be honest, I don't miss that chore one bit, though I have to adjust my RVs brakes occasionally.

Do you mean the brakes themselves or the balance between the tow vehicle and the trailer??? Your Q could be taken either way.

it would be with the brake controller, depending on the load on trailer. you can adjust the amount of voltage sent to the brakes.

if they lock up with a lite touch of the brakes then backoff with the controller adjustment.

i try to get a little lead on the trailer brake compaired to the truck braking.

if the trailer was made before 2000 it probly is self adjusting. but you have to back up trailer while working the manual brake controler when i replaced my brake couple years ago i replace the comple backing plate and went with front adjusting brakes, most prople dont know this as i didn't when my traile brakes got bad or i though they were bad went to get new shoes the dealer showed me how to do it find a long spot back trailer up as you are doing this work your manual or over ride on brake controler dont step on truck brakes you might have to do it several time to get them to adjust and even then if they are frozen you may have to do it manualy like on old cars through the slot on back of brakes
