O.T. Steel prices

This is a little off topic. I have a chance to buy a 1973 Chevy C60 single rear axel dump truck for short money. I was thinking of having it hauled straight to scrap yard (it hasn't run in yrs/ very bad condition)....total weight is believed to be 9,000lbs or a little more....what is the current scrap steel price in the North East? Will scrap yards take a whole vehicle or do I have to drain fluids/ pull battery etc? Thanks

Call your local scrap yard to see if they want the whole vehicle. I hear in MD that scrap steel was bringing $280.00 per ton. Copper bringing $3.00 per pound. Hal

$320 a long ton in western PA for cars as of this morning. Tires and fuel tank must be removed. I don't know if a heavy truck would pay the same.

Whole vehicles around here require a title in hand. They also deduct for tires and gas tanks. Batteries are bringing about 5 dollars each, but if left in the vehicle, they don't pay any extra.

There are yards here that would take it but its usually money ahead to prep it a little. Drain the fluids and put in an hour or so torch time to seperate the shread from the case and heavy melt, pull the wiring, radiator, and battery. Usually I can make about a hundred bucks and hour doing that.

Does burning off the insulation (in a rural area) have any significant increase in scrap copper price?

North MO 230.00 per ton and all you have to do is get it to the scale, they will get it off.
