OT: 2000 Arctic Cat 400 cdi??

Does anybody happen to know if any other model cdi box will fit a 2000 Cat 400?? Dealer only wants $540 for a new one. I know its a Suzuki motor, and I"ve found a few used Cat cdi"s for the 500"s and several more for the Suzuki"s. Just don"t know if any of the others will cross over or not. Thanks,

Casey

Casey,

I'm guessing that's a 4-wheeler.. I myself ride Arctic Cat snowmobiles. We have a very good local small dealer that treats me very good. If I get a chance today I will give them a ring and see if they can tell me what might work for you.

The 93-up ZR 440 and ZR 580 snowmobiles also used Suzuki engines.. Almost wouldn't surprise me if they use the same cdi as your quad. I think a few other AC sleds used Suzuki's too.

Ok.. I said it'd be later, but..

My local Arctic Cat says $500 is about right..

They also said that the following will interchange:

1999 400, 454, 500
2000 400, 500
2001 400, 500
2002 400, 500

Although they didn't sell a whole lot of the quads, they said they have never sold a cdi unit for them (But that don't mean yours is or isn't bad), and before you buy to make sure all of your connections are good and clean, look for broken wires, and check your switches to make sure you don't have a short.

Like the sleds, there is probably a way you can "jump" the wiring harness to rule out if it's the switches and whatnot.. Done it a few times on snowmobiles to make sure that it is in fact the cdi/stator/coil before spending money on them. Their mechanic was busy when I called, so I did not get to ask him how I'd go about ruling out anything.

Hope this helps.. If you have any more questions, just drop a line

Yep...sorry...I forget that they were a snowmobile maker first. But it is a 4wd manual shift quad. My local dealer is less than perfect when it comes to trying to help a customer out.

I have a 07 Cat 500 quad and it has about 1200 miles on it now, don't ride it a lot. what is a "CDI" and is this something I should be concerned about, maybe I should try to sell it now as it runs and looks great before a problem surfaces with this CDI.

Have you had the rotor and stator checked? It's very common for the magnets to fall off and it appears it's not getting fire to the plug. I have a cdi box off a 2003. The magnets came off and new rotor and stator is over $1,000. I just bought another used 400 at a good price. Kept the old on for parts.
