You know?
I've heard it takes a dozen or more people to flag an ad to kick it off of CL.
If I type in a search for Ford in the Farm section and I see you are not selling a Ford or anything related to Ford or even something a Ford could pull, use, haul or wear. And if you are selling an Oliver, John Deere, Allis or Farmall but you have every darned Brand and keyword listed I'm going to flag you.
Much as I like and respect Outboards, Bobcats, Farmalls, Skidoos, Ollies and JDs I really don't need your keywords in my Ford search.

Here is an example of a guy who hasn't figured it out yet.

[b:654c4848f0]1980 Allis Chalmers 175 Diesel[/b:654c4848f0]
[i:654c4848f0]"To whoever is FLAGGING MY ADD, i am doing nothing wrong, this is a legit add with nothing inappropriate. Before you flag contact me and if there is something to change i will be happy to take care of it.
This has been a excellent tractor for me, I used it mainly for cutting and baling ditch hay. I have now sold my horses and no longer need the tractor or hay equipment.

It has a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel 64 horse, great ties, fronts are new, no leaks, power steering, 3 point. I will throw in the 7 foot back blade which offsets.

Keywords: John Deer, Ford, Case, New Holland, Agco, White, Massey Ferguson, Oliver"[/i:654c4848f0]

Why flag the guy for smart marketing? Just because some people are color blind doesn't mean many others don't just want to buy a tractor and couldn't care less if it's an A/C, Ford, or any other brand for that matter. In this case all his add does is save those people time looking and having to do a search for each individual brand.

This add popping up in the search results doesn't hurt you in any way or take more than maybe 1/1000000 of a second for you to glance at it and pass it on, so where exactly does it hurt you in any way? Especially in this case where it states plainly in the title that it is an A/C tractor. That said, why would you even waste time clicking on the add if that was obvious it was not for a tractor you were SPECIFICALLY looking for?

In the end don't let your own compulsion to waste time to look and see that the guy in fact did have the tractor he told you he had in the title for sale and then further waste more time clicking on the link to get his add flagged. The man is just trying to market his machine to the largest audience possible, just like any good business man would do....what's wrong with that??? Heck you just might know someone looking for an A/C machine that you could tell about the add that otherwise wouldn't see it......And isn't all of us working together what this life is supposed to be about?

No biggy is it???? See it all the time here on ebay. Example: Deutz 6006 tractor... in description will be the details and at the bottom "no fendt, ihc, ford, etc, etc........
Someone looking for a tractor and don't know what they want but knows IHC is a brand will type in IHC (or fendt, ford, etc) tractor. The guy with the deutz will have his ad pop up because he's got IHC or one of the others in his writeup. Good for everyone. Just treat it like an OT post here, if you don't want to see the off color tractor, don't open the ad. Don't ruin it for the seller. Next thing you know, you'll be hanging out on site comments reporting threads

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I agree with you, but the internet & cell phones has allowed/ created the world to become more self-centered and rude, and it's an uphill battle. No one cares about anyone else anymore, it's all about how I can get mine. People don't even realize how self-centered they are.

--->Paul

Who would you consider rude, self-centered, and selfish? The guy that may be hungry and trying to sell his stuff or the guy that flags him because he don't like the way he wrote his ad?

May wanna think about that one huh????

If you are selling a tractor, use a keyword of: Tractor

That doesn't seem too dang difficult to figure out for the buyer or the seller?

If you want to search for any tractor, then you can search for: Tractor

Again, that would be self-evident?

If you are only looking for an Allis, or Ford, or John Deere tractor, then logically you would expect if you search for Allis Chalmers, you will see _Allis Chalmers_ tractors (along with combines, or other AC items).

That would be logical and thinking of others and helpful.

Now I see as how you can put down Ford or New Holland in your keywords if you are selling a Ford 1720, as they came as both. And even if you are selling an older Ford, sure I see how you would list it as both and just be properly listing your goods.

And the Case and IHC relationship can pair those together to where you better off listing Case, IHC, Farmall, and International if you are selling any of the Red machines. That would make good sense to most all.

But if you are selling an AC tractor, that just don't have no relationship to a Ford tractor at all, so you probably tick off more people than attract intrest when you go that far outside of what you got for sale.

Me, I don't bother with it all that much, people are gonna be people and some of them are rude. Just how it is.

But it's noted, and we go on.

Other people have different opinions, and that's fine, ain't no big deal to me.

Not making a big case outta this, but it came up, and that's how I feel:

Such behavior is a little boy jumping up and down and making a fuss, 'cause everyone is supposed to notice him first, and only him, and it don't matter what is on anyone else's mind, we all should look at _his_ ad because he's the center of the world, very very more important than anyone else. Me me me.

Well - blech on those people. But again, that's just my opinion because you asked, don't care what others think and no one has to think like me.

People that flag on Craigslist apparently have nothing to occupy their minds with or their wife tells them every move to make and its their only way to feel they have a little power in their lives

How is any different than back in the day when you read through newspaper classifieds and you had to read pages of text, most of it not related to what you were looking for, to find what you wanted? Do you complain to google when every link of your search doesn't yield what you want?

Could be , maybe , remote chance , just possibly , not certain , but you could ... HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS !!! GET A HOBBY ! GET A SIDE JOB ! WHO EDITS CRAIGSLIST POSTS ? WHAT ARE YOU FLIPPIN MARY POPPINS OR WHAT ?

Well now, I can see I'm not going to get much sympathy here. Abuse is more like it.
That's ok. I can take it.
But as I said, I think it takes a dozen or more people to flag an ad offline so I guess this keyword business is irritating more people than just me.
The guy in the ad I posted doesn't get it.
Maybe you all don't get it either. That's ok. It's not my job to smarten you up - though I did try.
If you are using a bunch of unrelated keywords when you are running an ad and it mysteriously keeps getting flagged well, don't come crying to me.

Ultradog, I agree with you, just not your way of handling it! I had an occasion to flag a Craigslist ad, he had only listed his cell phone number, but got it wrong-he gave out my wifes number! Craigslist pulled it off, but he relisted it, with the wrong number again! He had given a VAGUE description of his location, so I drove over there-it was a business-and I INSISTED he change his number on that ad NOW! He got it changed as I stood there-he had ONE digit wrong-what a PAIN!

I brought this up the other day about my Minneapolis Craigslist problem. Although I see your point, I don't understand why you care enough to flag this guys post. Furthermore, the flagging problem is getting out of control on the Minneapolis board, and its driving people away. I personally dont do those keywords, but I'm certain the flaggers hit my ads, because I have sold a volume of Oliver and White things through the site. I find it really sad so many good, quality ads like this guys' 175 Allis are getting railed- yes if your into the rules, he's in the wrong, but let a man sell his stuff!

My whole take on the flagging is to hit up the obvious scams and let the rest be, I just wish everyone else would do that too. Money is tight now...everyone could use their extra buck...

I agree with you, but it does not differ with 90% of the subject lines on this fourm. A stranger to this fourm would have to conclude red neck is not out of the question.

It reflects alot of working folks who are just plain normal, and unaware that there are more than the next door neighbor reading this. That doesn't make them bad people. Heck if you like old trators you just have to be a little different.

If a person is a scammer, or a slick salesperson---yea jump down their throats with my blessing. Otherwise many folks are just trying to get by with the tools they have, and perhaps a lack of knowledge.

Most of the time many of us have to much time on our hands so it is no big deal. I also find the older I get, the more I complain, so now I understand how my grandparents acted.

As country folks we have a opbligation to be kind to otheres, and overlook alot of negative things. You can tell alot about peoples personel attatudes by the way they post on this site. I also hope you do not consider this as anything personel about you, rather food for thought for everyone.

As a old neighborhood story goes around my neck of the woods. A new neighbor moved in and asked a neighbor how are the neighbors in this comunity? The old farmers coment was..How were your old neighbors? Well the neighbor to the North was a %^&*((*(^%%, the neighbor to the East was a ((*&^^, the neighbor to the South was a ((&^^%%%, and West one was the same. The old farmers answer was..... probably going to be the same here.

I SURE AGree,,,, can you or anyone tell me if any one can find out who the Flagger is ??????????

Remember you titled your post as a "Rant". This is a forum which is defined as the open expression of ideas. Others have given there rant which may be critical, but they are intitled to their ideas(rants). IF you give criticism be ready to take criticism.

I see you are one of the craigslist NAZI D@ICKS.

If you ever take a paid class on ebay or craigslist they teach you to do this. It is called marketing.

I only respond to ads that say "RAT ROD". When selling any item I list it as "RAT ROD". Just search Rat Rod from now on . [and get a hobby]

It can work for you also. I know a guy who bought a very nice Doodle Bug scooter. The seller had put Cushman in as keyword. He would have never saw it it that keyword had not been there. If I had saw it first I would have bought it in a flash.

I agree to a point. I am searching for a tandem kayak, but some bird has posted the truck he has for sale with kayak as a keyword. If you are shopping for a kayak, an F-150 is probably not what you are looking for. However if you are shopping for a Ford tractor and an Allis pops up, what is the problem?

LOL,
Aint this a great board?
A lot of wisdom if you can handle the hot spoon it's ladled from.
The thread didn't go poof though.
That's to our credit.
To each his own I guess.

Keywords:
DiamondT, 30" tires, Yankees, Arleigh Burke, Ford, YTmag, desultory, al Qaeda, key board,
Et cetera

THATS RIGHT I HAVE MORE TO WORRY ABOUT BESIDES SOMEONE TRYING TO MARKET THERE ITEMS, ITS THERE BUSINESS IF SOMEONE DONT LIKE IT DONT GO ON CRAIGSLIST. IF CRAIGSLIST DOESENT LIKE IT THEY WONT ALLOW IT. #1 PROBLEMM WITHH SOCIETY (NOBODY MINDS THERE OWN BUSINESS)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT MAY BE IRRITATING BUT ITS THERE BUSINESS,AND YOUR CHOICE TO LOOK........

i still see that same keyword overload on ebay items. Like when i'm looking for specific make and model tractor parts, the keywords of the ad will include everything unrelated. And then a JD part will show up on a ford 5000 search.

I agree about more careful keyword selection by the ad posters. I think we all can use a little more common sense.

Why would Ebay teach someone to put "FORD" in their search line when you are selling an "Allis Chalmers"? If so, they do not understand the tractor market.
The word "tractor" would be common sense and reasonable, but not specific brand names that do not apply.

I've seen some interesting stuff because of this, and doesn't seem over abused. Also seems like their business.
Only thing I've flagged on CL are the too good to be true. Can't believe that some ask on here if the $20,000 car, truck, tractor for $3500 is ligit.
