OT Air compressor on dump truck

Sorry to bother you guys but with the cost of everything going up I was needing some help. I have a 1979 GMC 7000 dump truck with the 366 gas engine in it. yesterday while hauling rock I heard a noise come from under the floor board. Did not last long then it did it again. I just happened to look at the gauges when I noticed the air pressure at 150 psi. I'm guessing the noise was the pressure relief going off. My question is where is the regulator at that controls how much pressure there is. i noticed that on the compressor itself there was something attached to the back of it. My question is can I adjust the pressure or do I need to buy a new regulator? Thanks for the help.

The compressor is belt driven off the engine. It looks like an AC compressor, there should be a regulator on it that is adjusted by either a allen wrench or torqs type bit.You can read the air gauge and adjust accordingly.Hope this helps,

As a Governor gets older and worn, it can sometimes get cocked in the bore and not shut the compressor off. Releasing ALL the air in the tanks can temporally correct the problem, but a reman gov would cost $25-23 if you want to go that route

little round thing just a bit larger than a flashlight battery. Called the governor you can buy a new one cheaper than you can work on the thing. As one poster says the aluminum piston gets wore and will stick.. NEEDS to be fixed quick before it causes other problems. Most of the units you get for replacment will already be set . Just plum it up and you are fixed.

replace d-2 gov. soon---can & will damage compressor, as it has no cycle time--new unit is about the same price as reman. i find them @ O'reilly in my area--
