OT buzzards circling

That's what's gonna lead'em to my carcas some day. Crap! I was loading silage this morning, dumped the bucket and backed up,turned to the left so the momentum was to the right and the bolts snapped off in the right front axle of that 1020 Deere. Why in the world that thing didn't go on over is beyond me. It all happened so fast I couldn't even tell you the sequence of events. I just know I had my foot out to catch myself and I dropped the loader as fast as I could react, but that left rear tire was a LONG way off the ground. Thought I broke a spindle for a few seconds there, but it wouldn't have tipped as far if that had been the case. It went down about another foot beyond that.
Where's that guy that wanted to be a trucker yesterday? Maybe he'd rather be a farmer today.

Dang , Yep them things happen faster then a wink of and eye. I would be looking at the rest of them bolts and checking on what grade they are. I have busted spindles off a loader tractor before while loading equipment . Just because the loader will lift it does not mean the rest of the tractor will take it. Alot of difference between a true loader tractor then a farm tractor ft. end. Then you add in age rust weather and one never knowes .

Where was that bucket when the bolts let loose?
I was taught very early that moving at all with the bucket more than an inch higher than it HAS to be to clear something is not safe. Like never back a car up any farther than you have to.

It was all the way up,I had just dumped it and was tipping the bucket back as I backed away. It's always a smooth operation, dump, start to back up as you tip the bucket back, lower it as you back around. Over and over and over.....til something major goes wrong that is.
I knew a guy south of here that did that with a quick attach bucket that wasn't latched one time. It fell in the mixer, which kicked it right back out. The bucket slid right down the loader and landed on him. If you can call it LUCKY,it only broke both of his arms.

Ya,the new ones are grade 8 for sure. Fresh breaks in the old ones too. The one layed right there where everything fell. I think I broke the other one when I was breaking some silage loose. I heard a noise anyway, but as loose as the front end is on that old thing,I'd be more suspicious if it DIDN'T make any noise.

Glad you didn't get hurt.

Years ago, a guy I knew worked at a fertilizer facility. He got a big scoop of fertilizer and backed out of the bin, turning as he backed. He spun the front wheels straight while still rolling backward and flopped that tractor on it's side, inside the building. The owner fired him before he got up off the floor.

I had never given much thought to how easy a loader tractor would flip while backing up. And then when you lose part of the front axle. . .

Good to here or is that hear your ok but what about your pants?? Did you have to change them or did it happen to fast for that LOL. Ya funny how things like that can/do happen and there is at times no rime or reason for it to happen but it does

yeah boy ,,, they like to back rite out from under the load .. rule 1 on hauling ,, ALWAYS KEEP THE WHEELS UNDER THE LOAD ...what a way to go with buzzards overhead , and we was all hoping it would be angels ............

Came awful near to needing to change my pants. I'll tell ya one thing,I don't think I'm gonna need any coffee for a few days. I'm still pretty shakey and jittery.

Certainly glad to hear that you are OK. Years ago I nearly upset a JD 60 with a loader. Bank gave away and it slid down into the ditch. When I got off, my brother was laughing at me, but I could not stand, my knees were too rubbery. Sat right down in the mud. I have only had about two experiences that scared me that bad.

Ya know how it can be BTDT sort of thing more then once over the years and when it happens it is never any fun. I remember a few years back when I was using a Bob cat and got in a funny sort of oh no where I was doing a nose dive and could not get off the levers so it got worse as time went by don't remember how I got out of it but after that is had seat belts

You're right about that. It can happen at any moment and you may not even realize it. Don't you hate it when the spindles bust off a loader?

rrlund I see that you are going to use Grade 8 bolts, that is good. Also check and see if you can get any more of the holes to line up and install extra bolts. I mounted all of the loaders at two of the dealerships I have worked at. At the second one the old service manager showed me to do that. Even if it is just one bolt on each side it really helps.
