Had a rather sobering, yet priceless moment to-day. Followed my son home from the dealership with his new tractor (NH 6030). Got to thinking that this was the first "new" tractor on our farms since 1971. My late wife and I bought a Ford 5200 new in 1971 and had our first child (a girl) that year as well. Forty years later, our son has his first new tractor and a new-born son!! Big wheel keeps on turning !!!

glad to hear things are going well for you and your family.i can only imagine the feeling of seeing a new tractor like that setting in the shed/garage and using it everyday hope you both enjoy it very much.

When you were following him, was he riding it home, or pulling it on a trailer? Just curious!

Our farm/ranch has been in the family for 101 years. To my knowledge, there has never been a brand new tractor or combine here. Only been a few new pickups. A few new pieces of equipment though, mostly haying equipment. Only new "farming" equipment was a new air seeder maybe 15 years ago.

I hope the dealer gave your son a new toy tractor for his son like they did back in the 50's when you brought a new tractor.

The only one the wife and I ever bought new was in 1981,a few months before our oldest son was born.
I wore the darned thing out and traded it off 8 years ago without discussing it with anybody. Boy,did the wife and kids ever make me feel like crap for getting rid of that! "We bought that tractor new together" "That was the one we learned to drive on" Believe me,I heard a bunch of'em. Couldn't sleep for a month for the guilt. I keep my eyes open when there's one like it on an auction, checking the serial number. Guess if I ever get the chance,I'd better buy it back.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Nate drove it home cause he just couldn't wait to have it delivered. He's pretty proud of it,even if it won't fit in any of our present sheds. We've always had Fords, with the exeception of the first tractor,a 1944 BR Deere and a 1954 Fergie TEA. We don't trade any of the Fords as we can't seem to wear them out, just get larger models. Been looking for a larger one with fwa and wasn't real comfortable with the first few editions of the Fiat based models.
