Hi~my 1980 Ford 350 1 ton truck motor is not in good shape period. it is a 400 cu. in. engine. Qustion? i know where there is a 3/4 ton truck with a 460 cu. in. with same tranny, will the 460 drop in where the 400 is? Thanks for any replys in advance.

The 460 will fit, you will have to mix and match motor and trany mounts, I once had a 76 f-150, originaly had a 302, I pulled the blown 302 out, put in a 400 and its tranny (c-6) out of a 73 station wagon, later I swapped out the 400 for a 460, I used the tranny, flywheel and starter from the 400 and the 460 engine mounts, also had to use the heavier radiator, and therefore had to change the rad. mount. I think I had to turn the tranny mount and crossmember around. I don't remember which driveshaft I used, but I think I had to put the carrier bearing in the other set of holes on its crossmember.
All of this was back in the early 90s.

it will bolt right up to the tranny, same bolt pattern. 460 motor mounts are a different bolt pattern on the block, but you can use 460 car motor mounts if you don't have 460 truck mounts, you just bolt the car mounts on the block and then lower the engine in place and bolt up to tranny, and let the weight of the engine down on mounts, from under truck mark holes in the frame hangers, raise engine enough to get the motor mounts out and drill holes clear thru the mount, now install the proper length bolt, put mount back on the block, let the motor down, install nuts on the motor mounts and your done.the distributors are interchangeable also.

Got a 92 460 (complete with alt, starter, AC)with trans (5 speed) and transfer case with 62,000 miles on it for sale. Pulled it out of my wrecked F250.
