What's the purpose of a double walled exhaust pipe? I'm guessing that means there's a pipe on the inside running from bottom to top. What's the reason for having an air barrier inside the stack?

With a double walled chrome stack. You don"t have to worry about bluing the chrome from the exhaust heat.

found this on another forum.

"The JD 70 series, and the vertical exhaust option on the 4000 series has an insulated 'double walled' exhaust pipe.About half way down the pipe there is a drain hole that drains all entering rain. Check for this feature, and you will not need a flapper."

I wouldn't say you don't have to worry about blueing the chrome, It will still blue, It just takes longer. My double walled chrome straight pipe on my john deere 60 blued

Yes, well, double wall is SUPPOSED to prevent bluing. Also, they don"t make chrome like they used to.

The stack I'm looking at buying is stainless steel and is double walled. What's the reason for that on a stainless steel pipe?

I don't know anything about tractor Pipes but on Motor cycles if the pipes turn blue it is running too lean.
