question on craigslist...

I typically have new ads on Craigslist every two weeks and tonight I was going to add a couple ads. After typing up the ad as usual, it asked me to enter my phone number for some verification stuff. Wondering if anyone is seeing this on CL as well or not? I've been posting on the Minneapolis MN for some time, and there has been alot of flagging...maybe this is being put into effect to curb the problem??? Thoughts?

Yeah, my wife said that the last time she posted something she had to do the telephone verification. Fine by me. I'm sick of reporting the scammer ads.

I also run ads on CL quite frequently - generally in one or other of the for sale areas.
Last summer I wanted to post an ad in Services for carpentry work and had to do the telephone verification thing. I don't remember exactly what I had to do. It was something like they emailed me a code and then called my phone. I had to punch the code into my phone.
It took about 10 seconds to do and I have had no phone junk calls or issues since. I thought it was because I had posted in services section.

its was supposed to do that when you become a brand new user. thats when it has done it to. it is for security purposes. ive had a lot of probs with craigslist lately to. for some reason other peoples posts get into my acount and they go in place of my ads. i cant figure it out.

Like Ultra, I had to do the phone verification when posting in the services section. There HAS been a lot of flagging going on... I've given up trying to sell hay in the farm and garden section of the Eau Claire CL. I can list it in the services section, but it doesn't get noticed there... who looks for hay for sale under services?

Never put on an add but that phone stuff would not work for me as I do not use the phone because of hearing problems. All mt contacts would have to be by email.

A couple of things I've learned about getting flagged.
Don't use a bunch of keywords in your ad.
If the rounds are selling for $25 each don't put $1 in your title.
Don't put wanted or wtb in your ad title.
Don't put a bunch of !!!@@@, etc in your title.

I remember reading when the cops were arresting persons doing naughty things and using CL to set up the meetings that CL was going to require a phone number to better track the person placing the ad. This may fall under the "services" section.

Yep. Never did any of those. Never figured out why I kept getting flagged. Did notice that nearly all ads for hay disappeared within a day or two, so I wasn't the only one being flagged. Only thing I could figure out is that someone thought the ads were 'too commercial'.

Could be that some unscrupulous seller of hay was flagging all of the other hay people's ads so he would be the last one standing and everyone would have to buy from him.
