05 Dakota Odd problem...

My friends 05 Dakota started steering stiff and the pump was whining. He drove it home, but before he got there, it puked the fluid out the front of the pump. So we pressed the pulley on a new pump and fired it up. Nothing. No return flow. Nothing. Rev it up and the pump starts whining and squalling the belt. Took the pressure side hose off and it is plugged. What gives?

Possibly you guys changed the wrong part. If the pressure hose plugged up for what ever reason, all pump output would go through the relief valve in the pump, foaming the oil and blowing it out the vent.

I had that happen to an older dodge that i had, wound up replacing the steering sector (box) itself and it cured the problem, one of the valves in it was stuck..Bob

wouldnt be the first pressure hose i saw collapse internally...happens all the time on brake hoses...power steering hoses usually blow apart hiding the plug.
