WD oil pressure

I have a 1953 WD and it carries very little oil pressure. I replaced the gauge and it still reads the same. I was told that they all carry very little oil pressure. Like 5lbs. Is that right?

5 lbs is plenty. If you want higher pressure, get one of the old rag stuffed filters. It won't help lubrication any but it looks better on the guage.

Are you using the correct oil filter?

Vintage AC tractors use a metered flow oil filter, and using a filter without the correct flow metering will result in low oil pressure.

That's correct. When my son worked at a shop here locally,I went in and helped them tear one down and helped put the motor back in. Owner of the shop thought we should put a new guage on it for the owner. Had NOTHING. We checked it with a good test guage and it showed 8 pounds. He called an old Allis dealer and talked to the service manager. He said if we had 8 pounds,we did a heck of a job on it. Said they only carried 8-10 new.
Put the old guage back on it that only showed low and normal and it was OK on that old guage.

Regardless of what your oil pressure reading might be it's a good idea to run it with the valve cover off so you can visually check the lubrication of the valve train.

I have a WD-45 that I use the old-style Fram filter on and it runs toward the high end on the gauge ALWAYS. (needle stays between the "A" and "L"). Make sure the tube that protrudes up from the filter base is still there. Often they come loose and get discarded with the old filter and you don't notice it.
