Was wondering who on the forum was on the tractor cade in the early seventies( that went to Warshington D.C.) and where you drove your tractors from? S.E. Arkansas here!

I wasn't there but a 1066 that had come from Texas was in the Smithsonian when I went there around 1992.

A neighbor of mine was involved in the tractorcade, I saw that 1066, with the flags on the toolbar, when it was in his shop, a couple of years ago, getting a starter put in, prior to going to the Smithsonian. Twas a valiant tilt at the windmill, but back then, the farmers reseeded the mall, when the tractors rode over it, unlike the lefties who leave the trash on the mall, after they protest.

I was a youngster then but I remember watching the farm report on tv and they reported that the cops fired tear gas into a farmers cab and he would be partially blinded the rest of his life.
The thought of it made me sick and mad at the same time.

The next report I remember was about a blizzard that hit and the farmers who had blades or loaders were helping to clear the streets in DC.
I remember thinking....I hope they don't hit any buried fire hydrants.

Or was I dreaming all this?

My hometown area supported the thought of the Tractorcade but only went as far as having a parade through our tiny town with some driving on to the county seat 30 miles away.

I drove locally only.

Most if not all from our area owned livestock which makes it difficult to participate in such events. Also the thought of tire abrasion on the asphalt quickly wearing out tires was far from thrilling.

Great idea, but farmers by nature are very independent fellows which generally means they are willing to stand on their own.
