got my 7.3 and love it!! Wouldnt mind getting better mileage though. How many of you guys are running these computer chips to get better mileage and power? Do they work? Do they shorten engine/transmission life? I would be towing a skidloader trailer and an occasional pontoon and livestock trailer so it isnt big time heavy towing but wanted your opinions. Thanks.--ps which would you recommend if any also.

Hello spitz,
My neighbor has this programmer for his Chevy duramax.
We only got it up on the first stage, 25 more H.P and 180 Ft.Lb. of torque.
it has 6 stages, and the more power the more STRESS to all the driving conponents.
It works, here is the picture.

Hi Spitz! I have a 1999 7.3. I've been running a Superchip in it for 50,000 miles now, with no adverse effects. About 20,000 miles after I added it, I added a Banks exhaust. Both the chip and the exhaust made noticeable differences. The chip increased the power, the exhaust moved the power down to around 1,600 rpms. Truck does very well now.

I look at it this way,,,,,, I do not use all this get up and go for EVIL. I never pound on my truck when loaded, no racing off from lights. However on the interstate it will pretty much keep a constant 65 or 70 mph speed except for on the largest hills towing our rv with 2 bikes in the back. GVWR on the RV is 15,500lbs,,,, I have never weighed it.

Empty, highway trip milage I get 20 or better, saw 22 mpg on one trip. Towing the RV, get 10.5 to 12.2..... depends on where I'm going.

the best way to go is with a Banks set up(Inlet exhaust and chip). They have the correct approach to boosting the power and torque(increase the airflow but keep the max gas temperatures the same so you don"t damage the engine.)and the data to back up their claims. But they are pretty spendy.
I have a Superchip in my "99 F-350 and so far I really like it. It made the shifts more positive but not jerky. The jury"s out on the mileage and truthfully I haven"t taken it anywhere with the chip installed to get a good mileage check. I haven"t noticed any changes driving around locally. They also do not overfuel the engine and guarantee(whatever that means) that it won"t hurt your engine and transmission.
Mine has three program; one for mileage, one for light towing(6,000lbs) and one for heavier towing(8,000 or 10,000 lbs, can"t remember which). I picked it up brand new on ebay for $140.
Ii had a Bank"s Transcommand on the tranny which I paid $240 but all it did was improve the tranny shifting. It was a little harsher than the Superchip.
Beware of the chips that over fuel because you can damage your engine and your transmission and drive line due to the increased temperature and loads. You"ll also need a suite of instrumentation to monitor the EGT , etc with them.

DP Tuner......

Whatever chip you choose, rememebr you have to get more air in, and more air out, so upgrade the intake and exaust as well.

They work but my experiance when towing the milage is just the same "Bad" When a truck is working (towing) its drinking. Yea it will help with a mile or two more empty on a long trip but nothing that is going to save you much if any. They do pep up the truck though.

They work great, more power and more economy, as long as you do not use the power all the time. I had a predator in my Ford.

Well, Yea..I see that Polish Snow-Plow on your roof.....!!!!!
Had one about like that on my Big Large Car...!!
