What is the gear pattern for hi/low on a Case 400? I know reverse is to the left and back, but were is the high low select? Its all one shift leaver for hi/low foward reverse. J

Straight up and down the middle of the shift pattern shifts between low and high range, one and fifth, second and sixth, etc. are in the same position only in different ranges.
Hope this makes sense, Harry

I bought a Cass 400 from a guy years ago that said the reason he was selling was it ran too fast which I thought was strange since they run very slow in 1st gear. When I went to pull up on the trailer I dropped it back in 1st gear and he came over and all excited and wanted to know how I got the 400 to run that slow told him I put it in 1st gear. He'd owned it about 5 years and never knew it had a low side to the tranny.

presume you're talking about the big 400s. as Harry mentioned its set up like the 770/880 olies with 2 sets in one shifter. 1-4 in the 'rearward" position 5-8 forward. the gears are "backwards" from most standard shift patterns though. 1st/5th is in the lower right spot. 4th/8th is in the upper left and reverse is far left back( towards you) I've found the to be a bit much to get in between ranges (probably worn out) so I switched my from a 61 730 parts tractor to a dual shifter set up. some like the 2 stick some like 1.
