Chrysler alternator

I have an alternator off a 1986 plymouth voyager. According to the parts store it has internal regulator. Does it hook up like a Delco? It has a two wire plug and the battery wire. Want to put it on my massey 135

Thanks all

I do not know but it is unlikely the connections are the same as a Delco internal regulated alternator. Try going to a libary to see if the have a repair manuel that covers the 1986 model year cars and vans. You will likely find how the alternator is wire in the manuel.

1986 is about the time Chrysler switched from an externally mounted regulator to one integrated into the engine control computer. (My '90 Voyager used this setup)

Suggest getting a shop manual for the '86 Voyager to determine exactly how your alternator should be wired.

Or spend $29 and get a rebuilt Delco 10SI alternator (Autozone #7127). It's the most commonly used alternator for conversions incidentally...

I looked it up in lester and it doesn't show an internal regulator for that year. If you get a number off the box or alternator I can try to cross it and see what you have. jstpa

Thanks jstpa, Its an "A4T25199" below that is MD062007

It also says: "IC REG. BUILT IN ALT" on the tag. So I assume that means it does. The plug has a large blue wire probably 12 gauge and a smaller green wire probably a 16 gauge. I would assume that one is a voltage feed back from the battery and the other an exciter voltage from the ignition but haven"t ever worked on the Chrysler stuff.

Thanks again.

I would try it on the bench. Apply 12v to both the plug in wires, then spin it with a drill and test for power on the large insulated lug on the back.

I wired a Mitsubishi alternator on my 65. It was much smaller than the 10si. It also had a properly sized pivot bolt. It wired identical to the Delco. I placed a 1 watt diode on the small wire to prevent backfeed. It works perfectly. The internal fan is a plus as I did not need to gring the upper slotted mount to get it to fit. The delcos work great and are cheap, but I had an inside line on this one.

That regualtor is labeled R and L. If you look at the plug as a T the bottom connection is the light wire, the top connection is the relay , you can probably just hook up 12 volts from the switch on it, although I would try it with just the L hooked up 1st if it don"t work that way then try putting 12 volt from the switch to the r terminal also. hope this helps jstpa
