Sears Craftsman oil-less air compressors

Does anyone here have experience with Sears Craftsman oil-less air compressors? I have a 25 gallon tank compressor with an oil-less pump. The connecting rod has broken twice. I am beginning to wonder if I want to fix it again considering the parts are about $60.00. You can't just buy the connecting rod. You have to buy a "kit" with the rod, fiber compression rings, top of the "rod", etc. Are there any improvements or upgrades to make this pump better?

BT,DT!

"Are there any improvements or upgrades to make this pump better?"

YES!

Put it in the garbage so it stops costing you MONEY!

For anything other than occasional hobbyist use those oil-less units are JUNK!

Andy, My SIL has one he bought several years ago .Sears oil less .Works today as it always has. He is going to go twin cyl Big tank, when he gets his cabinet shop in production. He never had any problems like you describe. Sorry I can't be of more help other then telling you about the one my Son In Law is using today.
Regards LOU.

Get a real(oil) compressor and post the results.

Seriously,I'm with Bob,unless you only use it a few times a month,it's a ticking time bomb before you even take it out of the box.In a word-JUNK!

I have been using one about like what you describe for about 12 years and have had zero problems with it. I use it fairly heavially even pressure pot sand blast with it. Have to let it catch up from time to time.
Mine at least is a Campbell Hausfield one with a sears cover.
Noisy as heck but other than that fine and it sits and run in an uhneated shed too.
Use down around 0 sometimes.

I had the same problem. Fixed mine and gave it to my son to air up his car tires. They are not designed for continous use. Get away from oil-less.

Made cheap to sell cheap. buy you a good oil type compresser if you want service. buy a oiless if you are only going to ues once and awhile. I had one for about 5 years while using one day threw a rod. the next day compressor was in junk kept tank. when I replaced I got a ingersoll rand with a 60 gal tank.

Crapsman, or Harbor Freight, are what you buy
when you are just starting out, and can"t afford
the good stuff !

Our local small scrap yard has a big pile of Craftsman compressors like that and the lawnmower pile has its share of Craftsman mowers and chainsaws too. Paul

Andy , chances are you have more wrong than the rod. Possibly a bent crank or misaligned bore.
If you really must stay with an oil less replace then entire compressor head.

my advice is to stay away from all craftsman and sears products their gaurentee and service is not what it used to be I have a sno blower only used about 4 hours and had to have it repaired 3 times already they wouldn't stand behind it because it was over the 2 yr warr. I know another lady who has one that the motor is no good still on warr. and she even bought the service program still can't any satisafaction out of them DON'T buy from one of the local franchise stores their worse

I have had a couple, in fact my "main" compressor is still one.

The "portable" died earlier this winter, just the one without a tank.

They don"t like cold weather, I have a bunch of tires I need to fix but won"t even consider using it until it gets above freezing a couple days.

Using a "quick warm up" heat source is a bad idea on these, as it will cause condensation. Then the condensation will freeze. That is what killed the portable.

If money was no issue, I would probably get a Quincy compressor, they are still American made in Quincy, IL. DOUG

Fawteen, you can add this saying also. " you can't make chicken salad out of chicken manure. yuo may get the color right, but never the taste!"
