Tell me about TEREX

I've been shopping for a late model low hour used loader backhoe and have seen a couple TEREX units available locally.

I also noticed that although slightly smaller and less powerful than the somewhat similar CASE 580SM models I've been shopping, they seem priced quite low.

What gives?
Are they not even comparable?
Are they as tough?

My buddy bought a 3yd loader for the farm and is the 585 model. We said the same thing why so cheap 90,000 with a 16' snow pusher same machine in anything else 100,000+ . We've had it almost 3yrs and know real problems, aside of the return to scoop button didn't work when we got it. I don't know if the backhoe has the hydrostat trans like the loader but that's the really the only b@#$h I have with it. I would recomend one for a farm/light use with no problem if I was doing production I would buy a name brand only because after we bought ours the only dealer in the area went bye bye.

I'm not familar with their backhoes but Terex is a well known brand name. We have 4 Terex cranes - about 1/2 million bucks each.

The Terex machines were Fermec machines before Terex bought them. Fermec was bought by Case and then Case sold to Terex. The "Fer" in Fermac is reference to Massey "Fer" guson. The Terex machines are essentially newer models of Massey Ferguson designed backhoes from the mid to late 90's and probably have had some improvements over the years. They don't have all the bells and whistles and electronics of a lot of more common brands but are good backhoes. MF has a long history in TLB's. Paying thousands less for a less complicated machine can be a good thing. Terex is huge so support for their machines shouldn't be a problem. Dave

Terex is not a good line. We have hundreds of pieces of const equipment and will never buy another terex unit.
They cut cost whenever they can which means the cheapest supplier this month gets the order. They never use the same components.
If you are looking for a machine that you cannot get parts for at a reasonable price or short time then the terex is the one you want
