We kinda know where everyone lives,now...what do we do for a liveing(or did before retirement)?I farm.have worked as :professional welder, mechanic, plumber's helper, parts runner, factory worker. My
"life's work"has been a farmer(35years),done these other things to survive

I just bought my F-I-L's farm this past September 10th. I guess that makes me an Organic Chicken Farmer.

For the 8 years before that, I sprayed crops for UAP, now CPS. I still got my Commercial Applicators License, but hope to never use it again. I've also driven semi truck during harvest - sweet corn, green beans, peas, seed corn, fertilizer what-have-you.

Claims supervisor for a major crop ins. company. Supervised Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
I farmed full time with my dad for 15 years, and worked full time doing crop ins. work for 25 of those years. All while undergoing kidney failure and a kidney transplant 19 years ago.

I am not trying to be a martyr, but people who fake disabilities and then fish for crappie all day tick me off big time!!!
Gene

UAP - United Agri products. Bought by Agrium a couple years back and fed to CPS - Crop Production Services. Second biggest agronomy business in the US bought by the biggest (canadian owned).

Ah but from when to when?? My first paying job was a pressman's helper and I was 12 I also delivered newspapers till 74 when I went in the navy and was an E.T. Also worked in gas stations on and off for a few of those years. When I retired I was driving truck I have done many jobs over the years living in this area. That is the good and bad thing of living in a tourist area. Lots of 6 month jobs an hope you got called back in the spring or move on to something else

Doctors orders and he/they will not release me to go back to any full time works so I do off and on stuff on my place. I can work for 30 to 60 minutes then have to take a break for about the same amount of time. I live with pain 24/7 and also limit to 35lbs lifting and there is a whole lot more to it that I will not get into on the forum and even this will probably get me attacked

E.T electronics Technician computer. I repaired computers when I was in plus worked on radios and all sort of other electronic stuff
Yep son it in the Navy in Kenya Africa right now. Last time I talked to him he was complaining about the weather and the fact it was 90 plus in the shade.
Yep sort of snowed in till tomorrow. I have my V plow sitting ready so will plow my drive way whenb it stops snowing

I have heard of Verona MO but have no idea where it is.
Back when I was in high school and did a lot of burning the candle at both ends. I had a morning paper route and got up at 1 am and worked till around 6am then home and a fast nap then school then another paper route after school. Made more money doing that then I ever did in the 6 years I was in the navy. Took at least a 50% pay cut to join the navy but that was better then getting drafted

Wokrd on the family farm from the time I could drive a lawnmower, I think I was about 6 or 7. Drove a school bus when I was 16 for 2 years, and still had my farm chores. At the same time I was baling hale and selling it own my own for about 4 years. Dad retired from farming in 87, so I took over for a few years while working at a small family owned business making additive packages for antifreeze, which later converted to a packaging manufacture in the mid 90s.I gave up farming in 95 when I could no longer do both, made more more "working in the city" and saved more of what I made bcause I wasnt farming. The hurricanes of 2004 shut down our main suppliers and customers, and eventually us in 2005. I now manage 4 warehouse for a major plastics company along with invetory control for a company that manufactures flat top stove tops.

I worked for MoDOT for 33 yr. Either in contract administration or maintenance. As a Resident Engineer, I was in charge of 20-30 inspectors who made sure the jobs were built according to plan and spec. I had hundreds of millions dollars worth of projects in St. Louis City, County, and Jefferson Co. As District Maintenance Engineer, I managed 350-60 employees in 26 subunits (maint barns)in 13 counties in South Central Mo. The personnel problems were quite bad sometimes. I was on call 24/7 365. I dont miss that or fighting the winter weather. Salt cost MoDOT the same as asphalt. Hated waisting money on salt. Prefered to use same money to buy rock, oil, asphalt, etc.
But at heart, was always a farmer. So I farmed on the side best I could.
My son is following in my footsteps, working for MoDOT as an engineer. he has been there going on seven years now. How time flies! Here is a pic of him at work at his desk. He started pretty young.

With THAT and part time recording artist - what do you do with the rest of your time? LOL

Our shipboard (old destroyer) ET's either worked on Radar (CIC) or radio equip in the radio shack where I worked.

I"m mainly a heavy equipment mechanic. As part of that I also do some fabrication, welding, and machine work when needed (ie building up and line boring boom ends, buckets, frames, etc, as well as turning new bushings, etc when needed). Beyond that I also did industral maintenance and fab work for about 12 years, for several different places, right after I got out of the Navy. Eventually though I got back to what I loved, and grew up doing, and hope to be able to do mechanic work until I"m old and gray....

All this talk about sons in the Navy, so I have to chime in. Our son (Casey) is in the final months of his first tour(submarines). His is going to re-up, going to Fla. in March for 5 weeks training to be a recruiter, then will be stationed in the midwest(closer to home). Davenport, Ia is looking real promising (real close to home). Chris

Own a auto repair shop, a 1 man show, and farm on the side, wish I could be a full time farmer but live in the wrong part of michigan for that!
Ryan in northern michigan

Grew up working on farm. After highschool joined the Air Force; after 34 years decided it was no longer fun and retired. Took a year off to take care of wife until she passed. Now work as a consultant to the department of defense: until late this year or next spring. Bought some property down in the Mo Ozarks and plan to move down there to run a few cattle and elk. Life is good.

Started out working for dad in his machine shop. Later worked for a die shop, a special machine builder, an aerospace shop, Chrysler, then GM, all in the tool & die trade. Retired in 08, as my plant was closing. Every single plant I worked in is now closed. I guess that's the story of manufacturing in this country.

After getting out of large scale farming a few years ago, I make a living in computer work (and just dabble at farming on the side).

Pretty well never strayed to much from the farm. Ive drove trucks, worked at a fertilizer company, and ran heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, graders, and pans. Farm 1600 acres full time and work part time for an excavating company.

I was a propulsion engineer for a big airplne outfit in Seattle, whose name I won"t mention. retired as Chief Engineer-Propulsion Research and Preliminary Design in 1999 after 34+ years and now we have a small irrigated ranch in Western Montana.

Retired after 35 years from my teamster truck driving job. Now play on my small farm feeding some cattle, raising pumpkins and running my roadside stand in the fall. I started driving school bus which was suppose to be a sub. just part time. But it seems like they been calling me in everyday. My pension payment was also less yesterday too. Guess uncle sam needs a little more of my money too.

I worked for a Cat dealer for a year and a half, and decided it wasnt for me. I know work as a field engineer for an oilfield service company.

I went from a sub to an air craft carrier so I got to do a little bit of all sorts of thing. On the sub did the computer stuff and on the carrier did radio and antenna stuff. Remember saying hello to an admiral when I was hanging up side down pulling cable through to over head. Found it was easier to hang that way and pull the cable then to get up and down on a ladder. Admiral just looked at me and said what you doing sailor and I said pulling cable sir.. He then said ok carry on. My nick name on that carrier was Monkey

Civil Engineering Technician. I draft the plans for engineers, but my specialty is in civil engineering.

The draft ended in 1973 - you could avoided the "draft" in 1974 easier than joining the USN. Must not have carried that info in either of those papers that you dlivered. Grin

Just retired January 1st. Spent nearly 33 years working for the State of Mi. fighting Forest Fires and working in outdoor recreation.

ET in the Navy stationed at Pt Mugu Cal. Then underground miner for 40 yrs. In supervision and mgmt for the last 20. I loved underground mining. Where else can an unskilled person make 100 grand a year? Momma finaly said I had to stay home.

Nuclear Power Industry. Electrician, instrumentation & control. Emergency response team for 10 years. Green badge rad protection holder for 19 years.

The draft was stopped in 1975 ya they may not have drafted many after 73 but the draft was still n fact active till 1975. Recruiter flat out said I had the choice of being drafted or join so I joined. So I guess I got railroaded if so then I could have a legal action pending. Ya like that could happen

I clean up farms and yards of scrap metal and other junk . Found some real treasures in the year I've been doing this, I'm going to do it till I'm through college at least. I graduate high school this spring and plan to go to college to get my Heavy Duty Mechanic ticket next fall.

I've been a hay and cattle farmer since I was in high school. First working for my dad, then on my own. Now, as the wheel of life has turned I'm farming his and mine. Along the way I've done a few jobs to help support the farm habbit. Professionally, I spent a few years as an Ag Extension Agent, and several years as an Ag and Ag Mechanics teacher. Been away from that since 06 or so.

I do some some consulting agronomist work now, and some excavation contracting but mostly I try to stay on the farm or on the road.
