Was in Glenvil, Nebraska, 90 miles west, this morning on business that required my digital camera.

Happened to park in front of the original jail and couldn't resist taking a photo.

no just back in the time before they had to give you an 8 x 8 space with your own toilet and tv.

I live near Wickenburg Az.and for a while in it"s early years arrestees of the law were hand cuffed to this very old Mesquite Tree to await the Cicuit Judge and a hearing which makes it a tourist attraction nowdays. Its called "The Jail Tree" and is located down town and is a city treasure. If you ever visit the "Most Western Town in the West,Wickenburg Az"be sure to stop and offer sympathy to the "Crook" cuffed to the tree. At the Vulture Mine Town Site west of Wickenburg there is a "Hanging Tree" where no less than 8 high gradeing miners were hung for stealing Gold Ore from the Vulture Mine.

Reminds me of a story I heard. A toronado hit a small town & killed all but one person. He was the town drunk sleeping in jail.

Anyone been to Jerome, AZ? It is an old mining town built on a side hill. In the museum they show pictures of the jail thru the years. It starts out on the south side of the street and is now on the north side. It seems with all the mining underground, the building slowly slid down the hill over the years. It is still there the last I knew...artsy fartsy little town now.

Out in Greenwood Wi. there is a jail museum. The sheriff and his family lived in the front and the crooks in the back. It's a big brick building, has a quick tour if your in the area.

I spent a winter in Wickenburg in 1959 as a first grader when my father was recovering from pneumonia. I remember that tree--I thought it was really cool. I was reading your post, thinking: "sounds familiar...."
