Where are they?

Here is one for you,I use the hand spreder tool and the black rubber bands to dock my dogs tails and de-nut allof my bull calves. And no, the dog can not chew them off.

(quoted from post at 23:19:37 01/27/11) Has anyone out there ever used a rubber ring to desex a dog? Will they work satisfactorily.?

I think if it would be safe, you'd hear about vets doing it and humane society's because it would be a cheaper alternative. Myself, I wouldn't do it.

Done many dogs without a lick(lol)of problems that way.Done a handfull of tomcats too,but it's alot tougher.

Make sure they are fresh and you have the spreading plier.About 30 days and the jewels are history.

I think that they are called elastrators. When we had sheep some people used them because they were quicker and easier for the owner, even though they appeared to be hard on the lamb. We "cut" them, a little blood, but over much more quickly for the animal.

My mother-in-law used to stick tomcats head first into a boot and then apply the rubber band.

They work just fine. Just make sure that they are fresh. The dog will now chew the ring off. He will after a few weeks when they are ready to fall off he will chew them off. No big deal. Do not use or watch if you have a weak stomach.

Got to be real careful of infection, then you wind up spendin more than if you had the vet do it in the first place.

Yea,years ago. I don't know how the cruelty laws are these days, but there weren't so many of them back then. Had the wife put a bag over the dogs head and hold him. Hated to do it,but I'd had enough of his running around.
Let's just say he sat around on the cold cement for a few days after I did it.

ring works great. They only feel it for maybe a day or 2.They do try to chew it but never seen it done successfully. On my lambs they feel it less than a day ,I think it's alot better than cutting.

A vet is not about to forgo his hefty fee for de-nutting and tell a dog owner,
"hey,use this rubber band,cost only penny's"

Goose, my wifes uncle was going to demonstrate that method for me. The old tomcat was almost as big as a grown coon. Let me just say that he never got the cat's head in the boot. The last we saw of the cat was when he jumped off of the top of old Freeman's head. After we all got up off of the ground (from laughing hard) we got him in the house for treatment of the wounds. I didn't know a cat could hurt a man that bad.

There's a lot of so-called "men" in this world that "COULD" be productive member of society without testosterone which they obviously can't control. Sure be a lot less prisons if the court had this option! 'course we'd have to get rid of the "liberals" first. The ole "cruel and unusual punishment" card , ya know.

No reason why it shouldn"t work- used it for years on hundreds of dairy calves. Also used it to dock cows tails so they would stay cleaner.Need special elastrator pliers to apply them.
