Antique Tractor Market

ANy opinions on where the antique tractor market is at since the Economic issues since 2008? (some % change from what it was???)

Antique tractor prices keep on going up.with more people getting into the'hobby',and more tractors going to the scrapper, the supply is dimishing.

Prices in general are down considerably from the peak about 2 or 2 1/2 years ago. I estimate 25%-30%. Of course, there are anecdotal examples to the contrary.

80 percent down in places, people saving for the cheap 5 dollar gas thats coming this year.gas prices suck the money out of the economy for other things.

The ones only good for show pieces are down in price unless they are very rare models but those that can be used for practical purposes are up as newer tractors get more and more expensive.

Judging from the farm auctions I have visited in the past year, antique tractor prices are significantly down from what they were a few years ago. Unless it's a Deere, most running tractors seem to sell for little more than scrap. Non-running machines sell for scrap.

My belief is that this is caused only partly by the economy, but also by the relative uselessness of the tractors themselves. Tractors with live PTO and 3pt hitches have been around now for close to 50 years and are no longer terribly expensive (due to the arrival of low cost compact utility tractors). A property owner who just wants a tractor for occasional use doesn't want to struggle with a 60+ year old piece of equipment if he can have a newer one with more features for a little more money.

This leaves the market for the antique machines pretty limited and relatively small compared to the supply.

But this is just my opinion...

The prices are generally high in the ads on this site. Always have been.

When you sell the tractor, you're supposed to take down the ad. So, how many reasonably priced tractors are posted, and sell, when we're not looking?

The tractor market is like most others. In difficult times quality merchandise always holds its value better than common merchandise. Even in hard times some still have money to spend but they are looking for quality and it is hard to find. Examples are really nice originals or excellent restorations. Tractors in common condition and those with poor quality paint on them are hurting in value right now. In either case they are not making them any more and they are printing more of your dollars all the time. You be the judge on which will be more valuable in the long run.

Prices seem to keep going up on them here. The prolific buyers did not seem to be hurt by the economy the last couple of years. Considering the price of things such as ATV's and snowmobiles, tractors are one of the cheaper toys to get for a man especially if one is not worried about a "full" restoration.
I will agree with the poster (and I have mentioned it myself here before) that said N series Fords have decreased as there is greater supply and variety of 3 point hitch tractors versus a generation ago. That would be one of the few exceptions, however. Things that never drew much interest here in the past have increased in value such as 1940's and 1950's Minneapolis Moline's and Massey Harris'.

I agree entirely but would add that in my area tractors in the 50-100 hp range are even lower comparitavely. They are too big for the small acreage owner and too small for the true farmer.

A very late styled JD-D all origional with new tires on the front and 60% tires on the back sold last month for $3500. I thought that was way down. London Ohio.
The sheet metal was excellent and really good paint.
I think it went to Indiana

Old saying green is gold is still on for the hard to find ones.. Common ones have found an level just above water.

Rare tractors are bringing good money. Common tractors aren"t doing near as well. Plain restores letter series JDs are going as low as $1500.
