service manuals

I am looking for a source for service manuals. I talked to binder books to no avail for them.
I am looking for books for a Steiger Cougar and a 2940 JD.

look to the left of this page where it says Marketplace, click on manuals. they have the 2940 manual, but nothing listed for Steiger. You should also be able to order them from your friendly red or green dealer.

The JD2940 service manual is available from John deere as either a paper manual or as a CD. Go to johndeere.com for ordering information and prices.

Binder books specialize in International Harvester, thus the name "binder" as in Cyrus McCormick, who invented the grain "binder".

Your local John Dealer will have, or can get the manual for your 2940.

Steiger either partnered with, or was absorbed by Case-IH, so a Case-IH dealer may be able to get the manual you need for the Steiger.

Mother Deere will have the 2940 books. Probably won't be especially cheap but should be a very good book.
Steiger... I suspect you can obtain from CNH... also suspect it will be worse in price than Deere. No idea on the quality of Steiger manuals.

I had a "Turbo Tiger II". I bought the service manual from CaseIH. Unfortunately I had to buy one BIG binder with books for several series and several models. It cost a small fortune. It went with the tractor to Missouri.

Big Tractor Parts has downloads available on their web site for some Steiger repair and trouble shooting for Axles, Hydraulics, electrics, brakes etc. Check out www.bigtractorparts.com and go to "downloads".

I know that they make them available on CD. I still like the books better. I don"t want to have a computer up on the piece of equipment I am fighting with. I have worked at JD dealerships where we had "Service Adviser" computer systems. You printed out a lot of things just to take with you.

Yep... It's not hard to tell what manuals have been used and what ones have not... The 'used' and read ones... are all black. The cleans ones never been cracked.
Completly agree with you. I prefer the books because books travel much better and printing manuals one page at a time off a disc with an inkjet printer gets very costly.
