Heating a pump house

I read of many of you guys using a 100 watt light bulb to keep your pump house from freezing. I use something that many of us have quit using for their normal use. I use a string of the old style large christmas lights. I hang the string in the pump house and plug it in just before I think the temps could get threatening. I leave them on till I remember to unplug them in the spring. If a few bulbs burn out, its still warm in there. The following fall, I replace the burned out bulbs and I am set for the next winter.

Well if I can ever get up the $$ and the back I'll finish my well house and when done just the heat of the water will keep it warm enough. But I have wanted to do that for 10 years now. 1/2 of my well house is rock and concrete the other half still needs done. If it ever gets done it will be under ground other then the roof and that is enough to keep it warm

Tim. If you have electricity in the well house, why not use HEAT TAPE/with thermostat, and be done with the xmas light burn outs. We uise it in our well house. cheep enough. Not noticeable on the light bill. LOU.

Thats a great idea. And you have the cheeriest little pump house in the state! I can just see the little critters, sipping eggnog and singing carols. . .

I use the more mundane heat lamp.

I use a heat lamp controled by a adjustable thermostat that way it only runs when it needs to, also have a small 1 1/2" window facing the house so I can see if the light is working without going outside
