OT-Tecumseh engine light coil

To add a light coil to an 8hp Tecumseh engine on my snowblower, does the original flywheel work ok for that? I have a used light coil that I can put on there, but I don't know if I need to have a different flywheel. Thanks.

If you are talking about adding an alternator-stator to a medium frame 8 horse Tecumseh (e.g. a H80 or HH80), you need the flyhweel with the extra magnets made for that alternator-stator. You also need the rectifiers.

Many H40s, H50s, H70s, and H80s (along with the HH and V series) used plug-in rectifiers or a combo regulator/rectifier to make DC current. You've never seen a lawn mower, snow blower, garden tractor, etc. with AC lights. AC was only used on minibikes, ATVs, and similar stuff when battery charging was not required.

Tecumseh made at the least . .

A 3 amp system that used two charging coils and a pair of rectifiers rated in total for 3 amps.

A 7 amp system that used five charging coils and a 7 amp rated regulator/rectifier.

Here are some diagrams - just so you know that Tecumseh used DC rectifiers on many applications.
Some also use complete regulators.
