Mounting lights to roll bar

I've become tired of not being able to see at night when I'm putting out round bales with my tractor. The headlights are right behind the loader so there pretty much useless. I was thinking about placing some lights on the roll bar but was not sure on how to go about it. Would it be safe to drill through it or should I come up with some other way of going about it.

Thanks,

Kelly

I've never been comfortable with drilling through
or welding to my ROPS. I've found ways to clamp
things in place that work pretty well.

Acording to the nanny state osha people you can't weld or drill on a rollbar you can clamp a bar or angle iron to or around it and fasten to that.

The originality of the ROPS is important to the survivors and relitives of the accident.
A lawyer would say the ROPS was modified and weakened by drilling.
I would use a clamping system (probably with stainless steel strap and bolts to attach. Jim

I've clamped to them, drilled them and used existing holes. If you've got a sealed type it may be filled with sand... so keep that in mind. If you clamp onto them use heavy enough steel to stay tight. Lot of vibration to deal with up high on the bar...

Yes Sir,

The higher up the better. Clamp, weld, bolt, whatever to get that good ground, then run the hot wires.

You could make or buy some u bolts to mount a light bar. A whole row of halogens front and back like the Baja buggys use ought to light things up.

The Off Road vehicle people use them, Magazines
such as "4 Wheel drive and Off Road" usuually
have ads for venders who sell lights and mounting
systems.

I have a magnetic base light that sticks on pretty good. I can move it around even to other machines.

you could perhaps weld brackets or u-bolt strips of metal to the
rops so you have a tap that you can bolt a light to .....

If you don't want to drill the bar, then a U clamp will work fine to hold a bracket for the lights. The U clamp is adjustable in aiming the light.
My roll bar on my old pickup has tabs welded to the bar to bolt the lights into. You may or may not wish to weld on your bar, but it won't hurt anything but the paint.
You can likely make your own clamp out of stock that will fit the contour of your bar.

If it's a round roll bar, clamping the lights snug but not tight can serve as a sort of swivel protection device for the lights in case you do the inthinkable and go under a low tree or door. I have a couple of added lights clamped to the support bar that goes across the top of my loader and a tree branch has swiveled them out of the way several times.

As another poster said welding or drilling will give a lawyer an "in" if the tractor is rolled and the bar fails. Jim

I have mounted lights onto roll bar and they help alot. I would clamp them on or use existing bolts or brackets already there. As others say, don't drill or weld on the roll bar. I also brought a couple of magnet lights from TSC that work good.I paid about 20 bucks a piece. They have a long cord and place them on equipment or the tractor where needed at that time. I then just clamp the wires to the batt of tractor. They make for good tempory lighting.
