Ya, I know this is a little off topic, MOMs farm is comming out of CRP next year. I am wondering what you are paying for cash rent. This is in southern Iowa 220 acres in 2 fields, just rolling enough to drain well.

Farm rent is going through the roof. 200 acres just east of me just rented for $340 an acre. Your Mother"s ground will be a little less in southern Iowa but not much. I am attaching the 2010 Iowa cash rent survey. It has the state split into regions and then shows the rents for the last five years.

Here in NW Iowa it's up to $340 maximum on a farm a few miles south of me and that was attained on an open rent auction. But I'd say we average $200-$240. Around here farmers are pretty tight-lipped about what they actually do pay.

Land prices have gone wild in this part of the state. One quarter went for $8000/A. A couple of old line family farmers locked horns and up she went.Jim

It so depends on the actual land, what soil test it has, well tiled, good access, nice open rectangles, no tree shade, and so forth.

Here in southern MN, I hear of $175, and I hear of $305, and I hear real silly rumors of near $400. And I know a few that are at $145. But those highs and lows are kinda different, not something to compare to.

I believe average last year for my county was just in a flier I looked through, $182. I'm sure $200 will be average next year, it certainly is not going down....

This is 175-200 bu corn land, and sells for $4500-6700 an acre at recient land sales.

"Silly rumor of $400 cash rent" , probably true, that is what I heard the neighboring piece of land is rented out to a big operator (20000 plus acres) for.
