..better than the back wheels sitting still and the tractor coming back over!
When I was about fourteen years old we were cleaning out the barn , I was driving a C Allis on the spreader and Dad was loading with an M.As I went to leave the yard there was a rise onto a cement area of the yard, it was muddy. The tractor came up onto the cement but the spreader would not and all of a sudden the tractor had traction and it started going back over..at first I didn't know what was happening, I heard my dad scream and I instinctively hit the clutch,at that point the tractor front was about 8 feet in the air and it came crashing back down, bounced a couple of times and all was still..I don't know who was more scared..my dad or me...it is how people get killed..Be carefull out there boys!

The old B & D would direct you purchase all of the manuals that were ever printed for your tractor and read them. That way, you will not have time to be on the tractor to make it do that.
I must say he is still old and crusty but has gotten better about the "get the manual" attacks.

Obviously those two disk that some people call a clutch are mashing together and causing this to happen. In order to fix this problem you will have to split the tractor (that means remove the back end from the front end) and put as much grease as you can possibly get on those two disk things. That should fix that problem and the tractor will remain stationary for quite some time, if this problem reappears repeat this process.

I was discing once and the clutch was out, engine running, and suddenly the rear tires stopped going forward. I looked behind me and there was a trail of oil. I got out and there was oil running down from the front where the hydaulic pump was. That was the start of two days out in the dirt. Thankfully the days were warm.

i was bush hogging ditches one time working for the highway dept. hit one of those phone company green metal mushroom things they hide in the deep weeds. ya know, there is a go-jillion wires in them things. took a couple hours to cut em all out from the mower. them mushrooms will stop a tractor dead in its tracks. mower dragged me backwards about 10-15 ft before i figgured out what was going on. phone company guy wasnt real happy.

(quoted from post at 07:04:49 01/14/11) When I start my tractor and let out the clutch, the back wheels go forward.

What's up with that? :>)

We need more details. If you close the door on the cab, does the wind stop blowing on you?

Well take it out of gear and that will not happen. LOL But I'll bet you do not have it in gear and you let out on the clutch and it moves a tad bit forward right?? If you say yes what is happening is the oil in the tranny is very thick because of how cold it is out side so it drags a bit and that in turns makes it move some. My Chev pick up will do that and my Toyota Corolla will do that. Tey do not move far but they do move. Shoot even noticed that with my 841 ford that other day

I think Rustyfarmall got it- Tailwind!

Diagnostic for that: turn the tractor around, and see if it goes backward when you start up tommorrow. Its in the manual- you could look it up. If you don't have a manual, borrow one from B & D.

I was going to do the same thing, but haven"t gotten around to it yet. BTW, is that what makes your hair fall out?

Did you run it into the shed last night?...just saying

An ETD? That was one of the most prized aspects of that tractor. Factory option ya know. Pretty rare to find one like that nowadays.

Hey! You're on to something there! Can you teach my boss's 8430 Deere to do that?

(It's going to the Deere shop for hydraulic clutch issues - on a lowboy)
