JD 730D water heater

Does anyone know if a regular house type water heater element will work in a JD 730D? Momma Deere wants $615.00 for original equip. Thats crazy. I WON"T PAY THAT!!! THANKS

The hot water heater element would never quit, also it's to big. We have a heater in the bottom rad hose of a 4010, should work on a 730 also. We got ours at the dealer a long time ago. NAPA should be able to order you one.

Tisco or someone should have one that goes in the freeze plug on the bottom of the head for $25 or so.

I bought the OEM water heater about 15 years ago for $80 and thought it was a ripoff. It came in an old two legged deer box and obviously the dealer bought it long ago. The 2 cyl accessories book shows a retail price of roughly $7.50. Probably the dealer payed $3.50 or so which certainly gave him an excellent profit despite having to keep it a few years. It certainly is a nice piece; brass fitting with special cord and a brass cap when the cord is removed. They certainly made fine/rugged stuff in those days. Probably would choke on paying $615, but with the excellent design/craftsmanship wouldn't complain at $100-$150. Only used it twice, but it appears I should take good care of this item.

Please post the part # you were quoted that price on. The factory heaters have been NLA for a while. No prices are given on jdparts.com.

Scott--The new part # is T23925 according to what my dealer told me today

The cylinder head is tapped for 3/4" NPT drain plug. Zerostart makes an engine heater that will simply replace the drain plug, part# 3100093.

They are available on the 'net or a local auto parts store for $30 to $60.

NO problem, eh?

Under $60 at local Napa.
I'd like to see that $615 quote in writing from the dealer.

JDParts website lists it @ $615, but describe it as an oil heater.

I challenge you to find a "freeze plug on the bottom of the head" in a 730 diesel!
