Ford 2910 loader whining and jerking

I recently noticed that the industrial loader on my Ford 2910 started jerking on ascent and descent. The loader also makes a whining sound. The problem seems to go away once the tractor has had a chance to warm up (such as after plowing snow for 30 minutes or so).

The loader has a self-contained reservoir in one of the arms for hydraulic fluid and is powered by a front PTO pump, not the rear remotes. The problems seems to be getting worse.

Any thoughts? Dirty filters, pump issues, control valce, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Ice in the system would be the first thought. Warm up, drain, refill, and set the drained fluid in a warm spot for a few days to see what separates out.

Pump is probably cavitating from cold oil that will not flow. Especially if it disappears when it warms up.

Are you using the correct oil. Does Operators Manual state to use another oil when it is cold?

Might be able to use something like 10w-30 or lower.

I'll agree with TimV. Given two days or so at a warm temperature a good portion of the water should settle out so that you can drain it off the bottom.

Had a ford 1920 that I changed hydraulic fluid in. Used Ford fluid and a aftermarket hydraulic filter. Winter came and tractor did exactly as yours. Changed to Ford hydraulic filter and problem went away. DH

If the screaming goes away when the oil gets warm then that pretty well tells you that the oil is not drawing when it's cold... so use lighter oil or let it warm up at a lower speed where it doesn't cavitate. If you're using 134D and it's doing this you can switch to a winter(arctic) grade fluid. F200 I think is what they call it. Basically just a lighter base stock oil...
