compact tractor

looking for a new compact diesal tractor with hydro trans. 3pt hitch and pto for grass cutting. any suggestions of makes and models pros & cons will be of great help. thanks, d.coleman

Go to all your local dealers and buy from the one you enjoyed being at the most. The tractors are all about the same, it is the dealer that will made the difference.

Ernie gives good advice. In addition I'd stick with the big names that will have parts support.
JD,Kubota,New Holland (case ih ) Mahanidra (sp?)might be ok ? I am seeing more dealers for them now.

I have a Kubota 25 HP tractor and a 5 ft Bush Hog finish mower behind. This works well for open land, but is unwieldy in trees and obstructions, as I turn, the mower swings the opposite way. I finally purchased a ZTR and will sell the rear mount mower.

Like has been said...dealerships mean alot. After years of sellin", workin", buyin", tradin", and workin" on and with most of the brands out there I rank them like this if service and support are equal:
1)Kubota-toughest, lots of technology and dealer support, great resale/trade value and longevity.

2)NH (I guess CaseIH here now too as they are one and the same it seems)very tough, long lasting, great dealer support, little less expensive usually and not as good resale/trade value, not as much technology.

3JD-Great resale, pricey (usually comparable to Kubota), lotsa technology, not as rugged as a rule but depends on what you are gonna do with it, lotsa brand loyalty (lotsa rabid Deere fans actually think Deere something to do with the manufacturing process!) Great dealer support.

IF and this is a BIG if...you have a good long term experienced Kioti dealer around you...I would put them third...they are tanks and the technology is gettin" there...lotsa bang for the buck! BUT they are like the NH...you cant have resale/trade value in mind when purchasing them. Like NH if you plan on keepin" it for yearrrrrrrrrrrssss lotsa tractor for the money.
All in all Kubota pans out to be the best investment all the way around I think.

John Deere,New Holland,or Kubota, depending upon which dealers you have in your area. All three are well made, hold there value, and will have parts available. Just my opinion from my experiences with compacts.

There's good advice below.

Something to consider: CNH has recently changed suppliers of its CUTs. Long time supplier Shibaura will no longer be supplying CUTs and is being replaced with a Korean supplier.

It might be wise to let the dust settle here.

Hadn't heard that, interesting.

Like my 1720, but would probably go orange with this news.

Kubota's are damm near indestructible but theyre sure lite in the assend if you decide to put a loader on.
i bought a Mahindra 6000 few years back and i've been more than satisfied with it...they dont have all the bells and whistles but theyre rock solid simple technology.

I have a cub-cadet yanmar ex3200 and it is an amazing little tractor. Was Formerly a JD790 or a 3305or 3005 I think. John Deere and Yanmar got into a pissing match and Yanmar left. Put a Cub name on it and sell them that way. Made by Yanmar, just like the JD used to be.

I love mine. Mows grass like nobodys business and doesnt sink in the ground for this size tractor. I recommend anyone looking to go try one out.

thanks for replies, have a jd790 at present for bush hogging, but want a compact true tractor(not a lawn tractor). have looked at jd2305 and like. d.coleman

I bought a new 2305 Deere 3 years ago.

I like it no problems, 133 hours on it now.

I have all rear 3pt mounted implements, no FEL or midmount grass cutter. I recommend tire chains if its used for snow removal.
The Deere 2305 was cheaper then New Holland and more durable then Kubota. You may want to look at Cub cadet too, new body style with Yanmar diesels.

Number one compact in my state is KUBOTA . They are showing sales of 34 % of all tractors under 40h.p in Tenn. Gota be something somewhere with success.

Bobcat company is selling re-branded Kioti tractors. So if you have a Bobcat dealer in your area that is also selling tractors you may be able to get parts there.
