Those Were the Days!

Who remembers the 1960's?

You have to admit they are great looking FISH!

We had a 59 Ford just like the one in photo. Pa bought it for my sister and I to drive when we were in high school. We had to ride the bus to and from school but could take the Ford to extra things and my sister had a part time job and she drove it to work. There was a Fairlane 500 or a custom 500. Ours was the custom. Less trim and only a 2 speed automatic trans. I can't remember was the two speed called the cruise-o-matic or was that the 3 speed?

In 1981 while in school I bought a 67 Chevy impala with a 283 power glide. It would go 75 MPH in first gear when you shifted into high it felt like a downshift! The car was rusted and dented up. I drove if for a year and gave it back to dad. He drove it to work for the next three years. We gave $89.00 for that car at a used car clearance sale. It was a dream to work on, especially the little door in the distributor cap to adjust the points.

You could pull start a power glide if you got it to 40 MPH. Seen dad do this more than once with the 66 Nova they had when I was a little kid. He almost upset that car doing that one winter. Back wheels hit ice and friction through a differential can go both ways. One side started backing up just as he swung through a cement culvert. He threw it back in neutral in a hurry.

Knew two brothers with pulling trucks in the late 70s. They had late 40s GMC one ton 4x4s. They put big block v eights in the and power glide trannys. The would get the sled moving at about 30 MPH and 7500 rpm in low then shift to high. I have seen them win many pulls with those old trucks.

1960 Ford Wagon, 352, Cruise-O-matic 3 speed, first car I ever financed. Fastest for a long time to come. Its demise came when snow plow ran over it in a drift. Purty bronze color. Would go down the street sideways. Think bolt broke in leaf spring. One of many. 61, 62, 65 Ford. Then 64 Cad convertible, went to florida with that. Got all the bugs out and sold it(boring)with no problems. Dave

Remember those years very well. A lot of first's in my life in the 60's.I gradguated from high school in 1960. First real girl friend, first good car(65 Chevy, new). first ticket. First time away from the farm (boot camp)First trip over seas (Navy)first dear john letter, first job where I actually got a pay check. The list goes on. Stan

Dad bought a 62 Chevy with Power Glide and six cylinder. Traded it for a 66 Chevy station wagon with 283 Power Glide. Never drove the 62 cause I was too young but I did drive the station wagon. It sure didn't get off the line very fast. Jim

nice pix , those were good times during the 60s ,, too bad we don't know what the future holds , we may learn not to fear it ,,, lot of 1st for me also ,,, dad and i broke speedometer on a 57 desoto , 1st time i ever went over 120mph

This may sound foolish, but many times I wished I was a little older(born in 54)I would of liked to have been a young adult in the late 50s-early 60s.Was just a great era.Cars, music, patriotism and a lot of other cool stuff.Bought a 67 GTO convertible in 73(first car),man I was king of the world,LOL.

Recently when the Murray River flooded the water swept over the flood plains, when it receded the water came back to the river and because it was in leaf litter and everything else it was depleted of oxygen, it created dead water and asphyxiated a lot of these big ones.
could catch them without a rod.Happened in some
